Up (No Spoilers!)

You remember I mentioned how we were now going to the cinema every second Tuesday/Wednesday?

Last night we decided to travel to a cinema we hadn’t been to before.  It’s a multiplex cinema so we knew we would have plenty of choice of what to watch if we couldn’t see our first choice.

First choice was Up in 3D.

up-movie-1

We arrived at the cinema and once we had paid for our tickets and collected our funky plastic specs we made our way to our seats.  We were placed fairly close to the front as the seats behind us, which are on a slope were all full.  Once we had made ourselves comfortable I told Andrea to turn around and look at the audience behind her.  It’s the funniest thing having rows and rows of people all in matching blue palstic 3 D specs! I could have looked that way all night and been highly amused.

Back to the film!

Brilliant! Witty! Funny! Ageless! Hilarious! Dazzling! Sharp! Uproarious!

The voice of Carl is done by is Edward Asner and it’s perfect.  (Played Lou Grant… in the 70’s, do you remember?)

Please go and see it!

and don’t forget it’s more fun in 3D……  31vB7NiK2XL__SL500_AA280_

  1. nikkipolani Says:

How fun! The last 3D thing I saw was Michael Jackson’s Captain EO at Disneyland – boy, if that doesn’t date me….

  2. Tracie Says:

You sold me, I’ll go immediately. Seriously, I think I will.

  3. Flighty Says:

Sounds terrific, so on your recommendation it’s at the top of my list of must see films!

  4. Flighty Says:

…and I’ve just realised why you show three pairs of 3D glasses! xx

  5. nikkipolani Says:

As I type this, there’s a story about a six-year-old who purportedly climbed into a weather balloon his parents were building. Poor child apparently floated away and hasn’t been found, though the balloon landed some 40 miles away.

  6. Jenny Says:

I have never seen anything in 3D at the movies or anywhere else come to that! The last time I went to the movies my son was 12 and he’s now 30!
Where do you get the glasses?

    • daffy Says:

They give you them in the cinema… and you can recycle them afterwards! Gotta see a 3D movie Jenny! Put it on your list of things to do… if you visit England we’ll go together ok.

  7. ip Says:

I remember in the early ’50s that there was a magazine which was printed the same way the films are made and we all had plastic specs to look at the pictures….great fun for all us young ones!

    • daffy Says:

You mentioning the magazines reminds me of those magic eye pics although you just had to stare at those. No glasses needed. Do you remember those?

  8. nikkipolani Says:

Ah, he’s found – the little boy. He was hiding, probably scared he’d get in trouble for sending off the balloon!

  9. Glo Says:

A very UP lifting post! What fun you had and thanks for the recommendation. I also remember the 3D glasses ~ especially with the cardboard ‘ear handles’ for reading comic books and going to the Drive-In outdoor theatre. I remember a real tiger leaping out of the screen and me throwing my glasses off and leaping into the back seat and under a blanket – I was terrified! Your film sounds much more pleasant – and I’m older now, too! Up, up and away…. Loved the Mary Tyler Moore show in its day, along with Ed Asner and the group.

  10. daffy Says:

Glo you are the auther of my 5000th comment. I feel a need to award you a prize! If you want, send me your or any address where I can send you a little commemorative prize! hehe I thought you said the tiger leapt out of the screen and hid under a blanket! That would have been great! I kept wanting to pinch one of Carls house balloons! The urge to reach out was overpowering! :o

  11. I fell in love with the first 10 minutes. It was just so touching, and I know I wasn’t the only person wiping away a stray tear.

  12. Philip Says:

What! no prize for your 5002nd comment!

My last 3D movie was “The Three Stewardesses.” It was a porno. Three young women of amble proportion poking out at your from the screen was more than I could handle. I left early!

  13. Thank you! It’s been decades since I have seen a 3d film! I must find a way to see this one!

  14. driver Says:

There’s a run on films in 3D. Gives me a migraine. I think I’ll check out the DVD. Glad to hear it was a good flick.

    • daffy Says:

I reckon it would be just as good normal! :o I wouldn’t risk a migraine. I have had a few over the last three years and I wouldn’t wish a migrain on anyone.

  15. laura b. Says:

I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ve heard so many wonderful things…definitely must see UP :-)

I love that you guys have that family night. You could do a regular movie review feature!

    • daffy Says:

It’s one of the best ideas we have had in a while! Really enjoying it and also I like how we never try and cancel, quite the opposite! We are planning our next vist straight after a visit. Oh the other good thing we do is try different cinemas too! :o )

  16. Tracie Says:

Well, it is possible I missed it. Maybe it already played here. But we saw the new Bruce Willis movie, Surrogates, and it was very cool. Not 3D but it didn’t need to be. (Kind of funny because we just saw “Baby Mama” recently too and that was a different kind of surrogate!)

    • daffy Says:

We saw Surrogates the time before Up! I loved it. Although Bruces surrogate had very dodgy hair! The time before that we saw Whiteout with Keate Beckinsdale… quite good too. The next time at the cinema is next week and I think we are fancying 2012 (I think) with John Cusack.. (My crush! hehe)

  17. Seb Says:

Wonderful! This was a movie that I missed, wished I could’ve seen it in theaters, will have to watch it on our tv, which won’t be too bad. Actually just saw Where the Wild Things are last night, was a little sad…

    • daffy Says:

I love a good weepy! Think I must be a glutton for punishment! The Green Mile is one of the saddest films I have watched I think. I sob so hard my throat hurts from my shoulders up! Now that’s a good night in! hehe

  18. Merle Says:

Hi Daffy ~~ The movie sounds great and I do
remember the glasses, but not what the film was I saw with them.
Thanks for your comments and I am glad you enjoyed the “Incredible Fish Story” and like you I enjoy a happy ending.
Take care my friend, Love, Merle.

    • daffy Says:

Hi Merle! Thanks so much for calling by! Hope you are keeping well… and your weather is beeter than ours. Take care Merle, hugs n love Daffy x

  19. Tracie Says:

I loved John Cusack (and Kate Beckinsale!) in Serendipidity, and John also in The Martian Child. Both very good. The last movie I cried that hard at was The Freedom Writers. I just bawled! (Yes, B.W.’s surrogate was odd – I guess that was to let us know he wasn’t all that in to the concept in the first place).

    • daffy Says:

I loved Freedom Writers too! That was a weepy! I think I like anything in it with Hilary Swank in… and Sandra Bullock, loved 28 days… and Kevin Bacon… who can forget footloose! x

  20. Tara Says:

I haven’t seen a 3D movie in a very long time! That does look like a cute movie. I liked Ed Asner as Santa in “Elf”.

  21. daffy Says:

hehe I’d forgotten about Ed being in Elf. Funny film! That has made me want to do a round up of funny films… just in case the up-coming cold weather wares me down! I may need cheering up and that is a good film! I quite like Ghost Town too which is funny in parts too. No Gross out movies though! Yuk! My biggest turn off!

  22. Louise Says:

Daffy, your latest post is just too funny! It’s times like these, that we lose our inhibitions. I can just see in 3d, you and the audience! Isn’t that balloon image fantastic. Crickey, Ed Asner, a blast from the past! x

    • daffy Says:

I love the balloon image Louise! I loved the film. There is a cartoon on before the film about little clouds which is as good as the film itself! A really good time was had by all. I had double-double vision as I had to wear my 3d specs on top of my other specs! Cool! ;o)

  23. Carrie Says:

Flighty sent me here and I’m glad he did. I really want to see Up but we are trying to sell our house and save for another, a trip to the cinema is out of the question :( I’ll just have to wait for DVD, I’m wick at 3-D away I have double vision and the glasses don’t work. Great news that’s it’s fabulous I so wished it would be.

    • daffy Says:

Flighty sends the nicest people over! Going to the cinema is no longer a cheap night out. (It’s worth taking advantage of the orange Wednesday… As long as you get the text from orange you can go into see any film, two for the price of one! THis film is great in 3d or not! Just a proper feel good film.. apart from one little bit. *sniff* Thanks for the visit Carrie!

  24. thedailydish Says:

Oooh can’t wait to see this one! John took the girls one day I was SICK IN BED.. ugggh. They absolutely loved it. I remember Hayden saying how much she liked it too. And now YOU. I will put it on my Must View list. Love ya! xoxox

    • daffy Says:

You gotta see it Dish Lady! Don’t forget! All I’ll say is, look out for Doug! *laughing now at the thought of Doug!* Oooooh and I love your posh house…. loverly! Love ya back!
