New Friends, Loved Ones & Holidays!

It’s been just over a week since my dad lost his friend Tess.  It’s not been easy but it has been made alot easier with the help of a bit of fate…

My dad’s youngest sister has  had the most adorable little dog.  Her circumstances have recently changed and due to her now being away most weekends and couple that with her lodger going back to South Africa to get married, she was looking for a home for this adorable little girl.

My Aunt telephoned me and asked if I thought it was a good idea if we perhaps arranged for this little dog to go on a ‘visit’ to my dads house.  It was mainly to see how they both got along with each-other and to see if they were compatible.

Well I’m pleased to say the visit has now been stretched to forever and my dad has a wonderful new companion to walk, talk to and to generally spoil rotten! ;o)

Meet Scruff!

Scruff

Isn’t she just the cutest! All she wants to do is play, be cuddled and to go for walks.  You just never know what good luck is coming your way!

The other plus point is that my Aunt is now happy knowing that Scruff (such an unfortunate name for a simply gorgeous creature!) is in a good home and somewhere where she can call down and see her whenever she wants.

Scruff is a cross bread and we think there is a bit of bearded collie in there somewhere but other than that well it’s anyones guess! My dad calls her a ‘little Wookie’.  (That’ll weedle out all the Star Wars buffs!)

It was my in-laws Golden Wedding Anniversary party at the weekend.  It went without a hitch and we had a wonderful time. As did they! I thought I would share with you a picture of a very proud mummy!

They don’t look quite as happy as I do but I promise it wasn’t the gin!

Lastly, it’s finally almost arrived. My holidays.  On Saturday, we can found sailing (?) the broads at a breath-taking 5mph, taking in the sights and living the simple life!

Great pictures Daffy. All three youngsters in the picture look like they are having fun. Note the very subtle smiles on your kid’s faces.

Scruff looks like a very capable companion for your dad. Has he got a t-shirt made for her yet?

    Bill

  2. daffy Says:

Bill what do you think it would say? I reckon “I’m with stupid” and an arrow pointing up! hehe
Three youngsters eh? How many fingers am I holding up? *laughs*
They look scrummy don’t they! How could I not have a cheshire cat grin with those two lovelies at my side!
    Take it easy Bill!

  3. Steve Says:

Nothing like a scruff to make things right. Glad your dad has a new friend.

You are a handsome woman. Your Son and Daughter should be proud of Mum, as you are of them.

    • daffy Says:

Steve you have me blushing! ;o) I think my kids have moments when I fit into the ‘cool’ catagory and then there are days when I just make them cringe but I think mums are supposed to do that! haha Thank you though, for the compliment. (;o)) *grinning even more*

  4. Glo Says:

Whoo-hoo! What a happy post! Scruff is adorable and I’m sure will be just the companion to help brighten your dad’s days. Little Wookie is a cute ‘pet name’ ;)

A lovely family photo :) Andrea looks beautiful in her new gorgeous dress and your son, very handsome! No wonder you are looking so radiant yourself! I’m glad to know it was an enjoyable celebration for all!

Gosh, amazing how quickly your holidays have come about. When you first mentioned them, it seemed so long until summer, but here we are! What a lovely relaxing time it should be. Have fun! :)

    • daffy Says:

Loving the smilies Glo, they are making me smile!
Didn’t Andre look amazing! I have to look twice sometimes as I can’t believe that the young woman I see before me is my little girl! Allen adores her too which is nice… he’s getting ready to chase away any male admirers!
We are loving Scruff! I’m hoping to get a few more photos once I get back from our holiday. She’s alot, how can I put this, easier to handle than Tess was and so getting her to the car will be no problem. I’m already planning on taking her to our garden to play every week! She also loves other dogs and Tess was never very keen, you had to be the right kind of dog for her. She hated Newfoundlands! Even if she one on the TV she would bark and run at the TV! Scruff is more amiable and agreeable in her nature.

  5. dog_geek Says:

Yay!! Some happiness for your family and a happy ending for Scruff! She is absolutely adorable – I could see some Beardie in there, maybe. All the Beardies I know have an expansive sense of humor, so my guess is that Scruff will prove to be loads of fun. Congrats!

    • daffy Says:

Thanks Dog_Geek, I knew you would think she was lovely! She is funny, just wants love! Andrea, my daughter, got a few ‘old’ cuddly toys from under her bed and Scruf was so grateful! She now runs around with a green and red dragon one minute, then a tired old looking otter, then she has a ferocious looking tiger in her mouth! Too Cute I tell you!

  6. Scruffy is soooo cutteeee!
Weird how the universe works isn’t it?

    • daffy Says:

Hi Steph, I think she found the home she needed and he found a friend to fill a huge gap and she has more than filled it. (I was typing this to you and my daughter was talking to me and she said, “I hate it when you blatantly ignore me while you type!” *shrugs* I never got that multi-tasking thing! ;o)

Sometimes the way things works out is just like magic. Scruff is one lucky pup…and so, so cute!

That is a gorgeous photo of you and your kids. What a lovely family :-)

Enjoy your holiday, Daffy. I can’t wait to hear about your adventures…

    • daffy Says:

Hi Laura, I agree, she is lucky…. she’s very cute though!
I think my kids look super fine here, I’m biased of course!
Thanks Laura, I’m gonna chill out and come back a refreshed and better blogger! :o ) Hope you are ok… are you moving? xx

  8. nikkipolani Says:

HURRAY FOR SCRUFF!! She looks like she’s ready for some new friends. And your kids are looking rather suave and nonchalant. You don’t look ginned up at all ;-) Just proud of your kids. That colour is fantastic on Andrea, by the way.

  9. Anvilcloud Says:

Aw shucks. It worked out well for all, particularly the pooch, I guess.

  10. driver Says:

Ooohh, Scruff’s a darling and you guys aren’t half bad either.

  11. Philip Says:

The dog is perfect for your dad. My brother has a Labradoodle that is a charmer he may have to give away. Come March he and his wife are going to walk the Appalachian Trail, all 1,275 miles, from Geoergia to Maine, It will be a good test of his bionic hip and knee. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appalachian_Trail

What a lovely threesome. No picture with Dad?

Have a lovely holiday in the marsh. It makes me think of the Prince Valiant books of my youth. I remember a story where the Prince hid under the water breathing through a hollow reed.

  12. chrisb Says:

I’m so glad your dad has a new, ‘cute’ companion. Actually I think Wookie would be the perfect name for her!
That is is really lovely picture of the three of you. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for good weather, I’ve never been to the broads so you’ll need to take lots of pictures for us to enjoy. Embee says he fancies a barge holiday but I don’t know how serious he is. Have a wonderful relaxing time.

  13. Flighty Says:

It’s always nice to read a happy blog entry, and I’m sure that the feel-good factor can be felt all round!
I look forward to seeing more pictures of Scruff. You’ve every right to be a very proud mum!
Have a lovely relaxing holiday, and I hope that you get to see a kingfisher or two! xx

  14. Tracie Says:

What a cute little doggie! And he looks like he would enjoy wearing one of your dad’s t-shirts, too. Something cheeky in his look. You and your children look smashing! Enjoy your vacation. We just got back from ours and I feel fabulous!

  15. connie Says:

Cutie pie dog! So happy for your Dad! I think you should have a t shirt design contest :)
The three of you look absolutely grand! I think your holiday sounds amazing, take loads of photos to share :)

  16. Jenny Says:

    Wonderful, wonderful!!!

She’s the prettiest girl and like all dogs, just perfect!!

I wish we were going where you’re going. All the time I lived in England I wanted to do that but we never did. Now it’s too late.

Love the pic of you and the kids, you look very happy! Are you sure it wasn’t the gin????

  17. Tara Says:

You could always name the new pup “Diamond”…Diamond in the Scruff? Hehe. Aww, I am so glad she and your dad are getting along!! How could anyone resist that face??

  18. That picture is HILARIOUS. Maybe it’s hard to smile and rock a pimp collar next to your mom. :)

  19. ip Says:

Obviously happy to get a photo taken! My daughter had Kim, a ‘heinz 57′ for many years, which she had taken from a Rescue Centre. A wonderful friend to her, but Kim did not like to have a camera pointed at her… something must have happened when she was abused as a pup.

  20. Oh, I’m so happy for your dad and Scruff.

  21. Seb Says:

That is wonderful news about Scruff!

So happy to hear your dad has got a new companion to keep him company… always so hard to lose a pet. But getting a new friend is a wonderful surprise.

  22. mylozmom Says:

um…..where’d the photo go??? anyhoo…….the dog is gorgeous and I personally love the name! fitting I think! Have a great holiday!

  23. Louise Says:

It’s great Scruff has found your Dad. Have a great break away. x

  24. Glo Says:

Happy Birthday Daffy! Flighty has let the cat out of the bag!

  25. daffy Says:

Thanks for all the lovely comments and the birthday greeting Glo, :o )
