Title? *thinks*
Sorry, no title… I don’t know where the time goes! Christmas is around the corner and we have had our first snowfall. I lost the plot of course and sent myself into a serious frenzy! My husband was sweet and swapped the cars over so I could take his to work. His has four-wheel drive. No, I don’t know what that means either but it didn’t slide, whizz or slip so I was happy.

*edited. For Stephanie @ Stopbouncing. This was taken last week at about 4pm, just as dark was setting in. The next day brought the same amount again.
My dad has been poorly, he had food poisoning and was very ill. After five days of hardly any food he was feeling a little better but very weak. Of course with snow, hard frost usually follows and the paths were hazardous. I was so worries about my dad having to walk the dog with the footpaths in such poor condition I decided to do the dog walking. I live about a half an hours drive from my dad so I’ve had a few early mornings and late nights.
I am now the proud ‘owner’ of an eighteen year old son!
) We celebrated with a family meal at a local restaurant which was lovely. Age doesn’t stop those kids having bigger eyes than bellies though and the profiteroles had them both beaten!
What else, what else… Oh we saw The Sawdoctors last week at the Journal Tyne Theatre in Newcastle.

They were amazing. We discovered a super little Sushi Bar also so the night was doubly good!
To celebrate the weekend my husband, daughter and myself went to Saltwell Park Gateshead

It was the venue for an evening of enchantment.
Enchanted Parks is art celebrating winter. The event is ticketed but free and it was a wonderful evening. The darkness added mystery and the displays of art and light were indeed enchanted visions! It was muddy, cold and magical and I don’t think you can ask for much more on a Friday evening.

This is the branches alight with colour that bounced from one side of the park to the other. I doubt the photograph does it justice but it was a sight to be remembered.

This was a ‘hidden’ cave beneath a foot bridge. The pictures and the accompanying sound were just amazing. As the stories were told you could see how the music, lights and words had the audience captivated.

The waterfall was surrounding by lanterns and candles. Every time a sight took your breath away you would move your glance and your breath was gone again.

The End of the Rainbow is Nigh! It certainly made you feel as though you had discovered something truly unique.
and lastly… how do trees keep warm in the winter?

Scarfs! Same as we do.
)
It was a great night and my pictures are poor but at least they give you a little bit of an idea of the wonderful time we had.
Two three things before I finish.
My Christmas tree is up.

and my daughter made the best jam tarts ever today. This is how many we started off with…. (I’m keeping them safe in my tummy)

and I have missed visiting you all and catching up with you all.

Nice tour. Enjoy the snow. All the best to your dad.
December 8, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Daffy, I was going through my Reader and saw that you had posted, so I clicked (little realizing there was a little slip when I clicked) and I came to Vero’s blog where she wrote about going to Bavaria. Hmm, I thought, I don’t think Daffy was planning to go to Bavaria… when I finally scrolled back up and realized it wasn’t YOU! Well. So here you are with your interesting photos of a very interesting evening. I’m sorry your dad had the food poisoning. I hope he regains his strength soon.
December 8, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Perhaps it’s my lack of non-tropical-international-journeying but I am always amazed to see snow in other countries.
I don’t know WHY I would think it wouldn’t snow on your side… I mean, I listen to BBC Radio 1.
Glad your dad is doing a bit better, you’re application for sainthood should be processed any day now.
As for the “profiteroles”, thank goodness for interwebs. I would totally love to gorge on a profiterole. They look DEEEELIGHTFUL!
December 8, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Hello! My you have been busy on top of your usual busy life so no wonder you haven’t been around much.
I hope that your dad is feeling better, and will be fully recovered for Christmas.
Terrific photos. In view of your comment I’m surprised that you had time to take the last one before you put them somewhere safe! I love them when they’re still piping hot.
Take care and stay warm! xx
December 8, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Hey Tracey, nice photo’s, they catch the ambience just right!
Hope your Dad is feeling better very soon, food poisoning aint nice at any time but when you get older it knocks the stuffing out of you for far longer than when you were younger….
And I bet you never thought to save me a jam tart did you?
December 8, 2008 at 9:35 pm
AC Hi, thanks for the gt well wishes for Dad. He’s looking perkier now.

Sadly Nikki, no visits to Bavaria for me but I do have a friend who speaks fluent German (and is English! hehe)
Now I think you would love the Enchanted Park. If we ever get to visit eachothers palces, and you never know, we might, I will definitely have it at the top of the list of places to show you.
Dad is coming on now, thanks for asking after him. We had fun internet shopping on Saturday. I don’t think he could believe half of what he was seeing!
.
Stephani, I so wish the snow would stay in other countries. This time I have been worse than ever. It seems like the Queen of phobias and I’m testing others patience with it. Especially my husbands. I once thought I was fearless but snow reduces me to a quivering wreck. (It’s just the driving in it….not the actual snow on it’s own)
Googled the old profiterole did you? ;o) Usually they are small and delicate but the kids got the big bad boys of the profiterole world! Scrummy.
.
Hi Flighty, Hot Jam Tarts! mmmmmmm *licks lips* I would pop mine in the microwave right now…..if I had any left! haha
It’s been a bit full on to be honest with this and that. It was also my hubbys birthday yesterday too. He had a great day. We let him be boss for the day and he kept on saying…. “I’m the birthday boy!” How could we forget!
Glad you liked the pics… a bit grainy but they give you an idea of what was there. I’m sure if you google ‘Enchanted parks’ on images you may find some better shots.
You stay warm too.
December 8, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Chippy – What jam tarts? *looks innocent* I never saw any jam tarts. ;o)
You are not wrong Chippy, poor dad was floored. I spent a night with him and he was shivering one minute, sweating the next and he was wretching something awful. ( He’s lost weight which is the only good thing about him poorly although he doesn’t seem to see the good!)
Oh and Chippy we have a new visitor in the garden here… a nuthatch, it’s the first one i’d ever seen. Very cute!
December 9, 2008 at 2:57 am
Sorry to hear about your dad. I hope he’s fully recovered soon.
I put our tree up this weekend. Can I have a jam tart?
December 9, 2008 at 4:29 am
wow…i can’t believe the snow you got. we only had a light dusting over the weekend–i was disappointed because i’m always looking for a snow day from school.
i hope your father is on the mend soon. aging parents are very worrisome–i’m sure you don’t need me to tell you!
and aging children are even more so! an 18-year-old son?!?!
the cookies look yummy. i have to buckle down and bake some christmas cookies soon myself. i make a big mess, eat lots of raw dough and then far too many baked cookies.
my jeans won’t button until after new year’s. such is life. miss you and hope you’re well. xoxo

Yaay Snow! *gets all excited*
No sign of it here yet tho!

December 9, 2008 at 11:43 am
Thanks for the photo of the snow – it reminds me of ‘home’ (Minnesota).
I’m sorry your dad has been so ill – I do hope he is feeling much better now.
Kids grow up so fast don’t they? My eldest is 20 today. Yikes! Where did that time go?
Those jam tarts look yummy!
December 9, 2008 at 12:38 pm
The Enchanted Parks thing looks enchanting! I wish we would get either some snow, or it would warm up outside. So far, just very cold and dreary here. I hope your dad is feeling better – nice of you to go and walk the dog for him!
December 9, 2008 at 12:43 pm
MMMmmmm jam tarts. I just love them *licks lips*. Well busy busy busy. The tree looks wonderful as i said it probably did. Your pics are brilliant. So much to comment on. But i will mention your first. I love that snowy picture. Please send some snow our way. I love it. Plus the girl has a snowsuit and is all snuggly with no snow to play with .x
December 9, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Haha…. call in Sherlock Holmes…. ‘The Case of the Missing Jam Tarts’……
A Nuthatch, well done!, down here I’ve got a Robin, Great Tits, (now now!!), Green Finches, Long Tailed Tits, Wrens, what I think is possibly a Dunnock, both Tree and House Sparrows, Collared Doves and Wood Pigeons, plus, naturally, Blackbirds, Starlings and crows…. and they’re all hungry!!
December 9, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Chippy my hubby has just telephoned and he now believes me about the Woodpecker as he has been watching it for the last half an hour!

It costs a pretty penny, this bird feeding lark! (Lark- Bird feeding! hehe!)
.
Hi Fab – The snowy pic looks pretty! That’s it though, anything more than looking is just darn scary!
Putting the tree up was fun, especially as we had a tree foreman in the shape of my hubby! lol
.
Dog – Geek I think you would love it… dogs were welcome too! There was this crazy Bichon Frise called Alfie that was darting under legs and fences and skidding around corners! He was having a ball!
I don’t mind taking Tess out, she is lovely and she is getting on a bit now so is nowhere near as boistrous as she once was.
.
Hi Maureen, I have a pen-pal in Minnesota
Happy birthday to your eldest! 20! Wow and I am freaking out at 18! ;o)
I thought the jamtarts looked a bit sorry but to be fair they had been transported in some mad fashion quite a way but they were yummy!
.
Hi J * Grabs huge snowball and scrubs J right in the mush!* hehe
.
Curly – Snow days! I miss those, when I was a girl we had 9 foot snow drifts…. really we did….well once we did. I remember my brother and I making igloos and I remember crying whilst my mum sat on my feet to warm them through!
Dad is picking up a good bit now… you are right, they are a worry. We do that parent/child reversal thing!
Ooooh bake me some… I can’t… and Andrea is like you and tend to eat the mix! lol
xx
.
Ruth – Hello there, I must call over and say hi but I did read the update on your blog which must be a worry for all. Thanks for wishes for Dad, he is on the mend and yes you can have a jam tart! I saved one especially for you! x
.
December 9, 2008 at 4:34 pm
WOW Daff – what an amazing light show. So artistic and lovely. I always enjoy getting to “ride along” on these outings of yours – thanks! Hope your dad is on the mend. Food poisoning is the worst. Even when you stop feeling wretched you’re too afraid to start eating again. Watch him like a hawk. PS: Those tarts look scrummy!!! Maybe Andrea would like to enter my baking contest??
December 9, 2008 at 5:42 pm
I have never driven in snow…I’d probably kill myself.
Is your dad feeling better now? Food poisoning is awful. He’s so lucky to have you to care for him.
That light show looks absolutely amazing! I don’t know if we have anything like that around here, but I aim to find out!
PS- I hope you saved some tarts for the rest of us. haha!
December 9, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Oh poor George! Please tell him I am sending him lots of big hugs to make him feel better (hope they work!) And also please tell Lil feather
that I desperately need some jam tarts stat because those ones look scrummy!
Lovely pics and that is one smashing tree!! xxxxxxx
December 10, 2008 at 7:01 am
Diva, hello there sweetie, well your tree looked amazing too! The hugs must have worked as I have just spoken to George and he seems quite spritely today!
)
) xxxx
The jam tarts are in the post…..lol xxxxx
.
Dish Lady, well I had better come over and have a look. It’s a pity you don’t have a competition for boiling water as I could enter that one! (I can do that unaided! lol)
.
Laura, driving in the snow and ice is the worst feeling for me. It’s becasue I have no control and I can’t relax…. I’m just on edge and probably make more driving errors in that state!
You would love the light show….it’s really pretty and for free! The artists work is great and diverse. Some are a bit ‘far out’ but all good to see!
The tarts are gone! I don’t know where…..*mutters* Just gone….*rubs tummy*
December 10, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Time just flies, doesn’t it? I was supposed to be ready by now. Our tree isn’t up, which reminds me… gotta go downstairs and do it. *Sigh*
December 10, 2008 at 5:23 pm
You are still a lot better organised than me. Still no tree up. We didn’t get any snow but some very heavy frosts made it quite slippery. I do love seeing a blanket of snow before it all becomes trampled so your garden picture is lovely.
That old theatre looks so full of character- I love old buildings.
Beccy goes home this evening so I shall have to play catch up tomorrow!
December 10, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Wow, that snow looks so… cold. If it gets below 60 I am freezing, been a Florida girl too long and my blood has thinned! Or something. The enchanted park thingy was really cool, tho. I’m glad your hubby rescued you with his “no-slip” vehicle! Today my car was acting up, so hubby came where I was and switched vehicles with me. Which was great, until I realized he’d driven off with my car keys too, which also had my house key on it! Oops!We got it sorted out, obviously, or I wouldn’t be home now writing to you! I loved the old theatre building, by the way. And yes, I have my tree up! A gold star for me.
December 11, 2008 at 3:57 pm
I always enjoy your “tours” Gives me a flavor of all things “English” which I am missing greatly since my dear friend Dorothy passed away.
Glad your father is on the mend and you are an excellent daughter!
Love the snow…rarely get snow in South Carolina!
December 11, 2008 at 5:06 pm
glad your father is on the mend,we still haven’t had any snow and robin wants it lol, those jam tarts look yummy xx
December 12, 2008 at 2:55 am
Yum, food. The jam tarts look yummy. It looks like you had an awesome time at the show. We have a lot of snow here now and it keeps raining and warming and getting cold again so it is icy also. I hope your dad is feeling better.
December 12, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Daff, be on the lookout for a small parcel – should arrive w/in 10 days. MERRY CHRISTMAS!! xoxo
December 13, 2008 at 1:59 am
Hi Tracey, Were very jealous of “your” snow, as far as Christmas is concerned i couldn’t agree more its crept up on us again.
December 13, 2008 at 6:16 pm
I have read through this numerous times over the last few days meaning to respond ~ so here I am at last! A lovely variety of photos ~ I love lights, too. Glad to hear your dad’s feeling better. Yummy tarts
We had our first snowfall yesterday ~ about 4 inches, however over night the wind came up and blew it all somewhere else…weird weather. Although it looked beautiful, it was treacherous for driving and there were a few serious accidents. I didn’t even get a chance to take a photo of all the snow covered trees ~ I was going to do that today … oh well!
December 13, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Me again, add Coal Tits to the above list, distinguishable by the white wing bars……
LOL
December 14, 2008 at 9:48 am
Some great pictures there! No tree yet chez moi I’m afraid. Hope you have a relatively stressfree run-up to Christmas! Cafe.
December 15, 2008 at 1:53 pm
What a beautiful tree! I love the white ornaments. An mm, those tarts look so tasty!
December 16, 2008 at 2:57 am
I’ve been way down South in Texas for a while and haven’t been very active. The light show looks really beautiful. Was there snow on the ground when you saw the show? A bit of snow up here in Ohio while I was gone, but it’s gone now also. Sorry to hear about your dad. I’ve had food poisoning also and it isn’t any fun at all. Gawd! Jam tarts. I haven’t even heard of one since I left Germany in the mid-50’s. My dad used to take us up into London for NATO conferences and we’d gorge ourselves on them every morning with a good pot of tea. I have kept the tea habit, but surely miss the tarts (jam or otherwise)
December 16, 2008 at 7:03 am
Hi DeYank, I’m not sure how jam tarts travel but would certainly send a few over if I could. Having said that they would have to be Mr Kiplings shop bought ones! Not as good as my daughters but as I can’t bake unless i got her to make a batch they would have to do! haha Whenever we go to Devon, which is a god 6 or 7 hours drive away from me, (usually more depending on how many times we get lost!) I love nothing more than a cream tea… you can only get them at Devon though…the proper ones!
) Are you ready for Christmas yet?
) I must admit usually I am the day before but for some reason we were motivated early… I think it was the thought of having to dig it out of the shed on my own!
)
) We get coal tits too…

Hi Tara, tree is a little wibbly and a little wobbly but adds character to the Christmas decorations I think!
.
CCL – Get the tree up man!
.
Chippy – the best sight I see when watching out at the garden, except for the Jays, and the daily woodpecker visit is the long tail tits….they come in a gang of about twenty, cause mayhem and then leave! It’s so funny.
.
Hi Glo, you take your time, there is no hurry here….we have a casual style about us at the moment.
The snow does bring with it some lovely photo ops’ but driving in it is just my nemesis. We had snow on Saturday night, loads of it, snowed for hours, yet as soon as you got down the hill and towards Durham there was nothing. Yet entering our village was like the opening to a Winter Wonderland! Very surreal.
.
Bob, I’ll swap you some snow for the afore mentioned cream tea then? Good swap?
.
Dish Lady you spoil me, now I am going to acost the postie every morning! Thankfully he’s worth accosting! lol xxxx Merry Christmas lovely lady. xxx
.
Hi Dawn, I couldn’t cope with your snow! lol The icy roads are awful….what about those ice storms recently in America, now they would scare the pants of me!
.
Hi Fraggle – Well I’ll wish for a little more snow but only enough for Robin to make a snowman! Then I want it gone! hehe The Jam Tarts were certainly yummy. All gone noe I’m afraid.
xx
.
Aww Connie, I’m sorry for the loss of your friend. I’ll do my best to give you your English fix.
Not much snow you say? *Daffy runs off to pack up and head for South Carolina!*
.
Tracie, well what a pickl you got into! haha, My hubbies car is amazing, I’m sure batman would want to swap too!
The snow here keeps coming and going, just enough to have me sweating occasionally! Not sure if we will get a white Christmas though, now that would be pretty. Hope you are ok. xxx
.
Chris, I’ve been out of the blog loop myself lately. Have you got the tree up yet? Come on missus, get it sorted.
.
Diddums, time does fly, just over a week now….. Hope you are just about ready! Tree up? Decorations? Santa and the reindeers treats ready? Come on, get sorted!
December 16, 2008 at 9:47 pm
This is a nice post, hope your dad is feeling better. That snow photo says it all, we have a lot of snow also. Thanks for sharing the pictures, they are very nice and your daughters tarts look yummy. Merry Christmas to you and your family and thanks for coming by.
December 17, 2008 at 8:35 am
Hi Daffy ~~ Loved seeing all your photos.
Lovely buildings and the fun park ones were good. I hope your son had a good birthday.
Thank you for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Keep warm my friend
and soon Spring will arrive. I hope your father is soon back to normal. Take care and have a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. Love, Merle.
December 18, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Margaret & Merle! Hi Ladies! Thanks for stopping by, Merle, it’s warming up here a little but very windy! I’ll have to hold onto my hat tonight! xxx
Margaret, I loved meeting your new member of the family! I think he is going to be alot of fun and a bundle of trouble!

December 18, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Why do you taunt me with your jam tarts and your Journal Tyne Theatre??!? Everything looks so British-y…I haven’t had a decent Yorkshire Pudding in like a year!!
December 19, 2008 at 6:42 am
hehe, well Cusack you wouldn’t get a good Yorkshire pud from me I’m afraid, I buy them all ready made! *shock-horror* I do! I’m not good in the kitchen. The theatre is lovely, very traditional inside. Wen the Docs were on stage, we were watching from the galleries and it was scary looking down! We tried to rock on safely in our chairs.
)
)
Thanks for the visit.
