So this is the task:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123
3. Find the 5th sentence
4. Post the next three sentences
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

The border is only 40 miles east of Chisinau. We have to negotiate three separate roadblocks at each of which Transdniestrian police and army check our papers beneath gantries proudly adorned with the emblem of the hammer and sickle, which, in the rest of Eastern Europe, you now only see in museums or flea markets.
Once across the border all seems to conform to the Lonely Planet’sdescription of Transdniester as ‘one of the last surviving communist bastions’.
And what is the title of this book.. New Europe by Michael Palin

I realise how lucky I am to have one hedgehog but how lucky would I have to be to have two? Very lucky? Well then I am very lucky. The funny thing is, they fight like ‘erm, hedgehog and hedgehog.
) The smaller of the two is constantly running towards the other in a dramatic, confrontational way. The bigger of the two takes it in his stride but neither of these hogs are built for battle.
Today I had to take my car half way to Manchester. Why half way? well it’s only fair, I was meeting a colleague and he was going to take my car back to be repaired after the MacDonalds fiasco a few weeks ago. I was excited to see what I was going to get in the interim to keep me mobile. I was not prepared for what I saw before me.
This squished up little motor car is a Peugeot 107. It’s an automatic. I know, that between now and when I return this little hairdryer masquerading as a car that I am going to stomp on the brakes whilst looking for the clutch and whack my head of the windscreen. It’s a knocking bet!
This car couldn’t pull the skin off a custard. I found myself doing that apologetic wave to my fellow drivers as I had no option but to pull out and overtake a tortoise or two…
On the plus side? No, I’m sorry, in my opinion there is no plus side. This car is not for speed freaks (who adhere to speed limits) like myself. I need something that can go from 0-62mph in a little less than 14.2 seconds, which, I don’t agree with. I think it’s more like 3 minutes!
This little beauty is going into my memory box. The evening, the atmosphere, the music, the company, the food, the songs, the lyrics, the dancing and the clapping is to be remembered for a long time to come!
Life here at Daffy Towers is all go at the moment, it’s two weeks today before we go on holiday. My son has been job-hunting (part time to fit in with his full time further education) which involves mam driving him to prospective work places and waiting outside whilst he sells himself to whoever will listen. I hope it’s fruitful. My daughter is planning her 13th birthday celebrations. As she will be in Croatia on her birthday she plans to celebrate on Saturday 18th. Her and three friends are going to Quaser Laser at the Metro Centre.
I have a feeling my son will be planning a party or two for himself whilst we are away but it’s not for his birthday!
Right, hedgehog watching time.
)
*EDIT
Glo has a magnificent creative mind, and so it was only a matter of time before she came up with a picture for my rather mixed up themed blog entry.
I think Puegothogs is perfect!
This little car is now full!! ;o)

Michael, the longer you visit me, the more you will realise that I am the original ‘Mrs Shifter’. I have a makeover in here on an almost weekly basis. What can I say…. I like change.
)
Hope you are ok and the bump on the head is on the mend! ;o)
July 8, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Yay! I’m glad that you got to see Elton John do his thing! He’s really fun.
Couldn’t pull the skin off a custard, eh? I love it!!! (The phrase, not the car.) (But the car is cute, too!)
July 8, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Hi Daffy thanks for doing the meme~ I haven’t read any of Michael Palin’s books but he is so entertaining on TV.
I have never in my life been to a live pop concert..how sad is that.. and I guess I’m a bit old to be going now!!
You’ll have to take some more photos of the battling hedgehogs!
The next 2 weeks will fly by there is always so much to do before a holiday~ hope your son manages to get a good job.
July 8, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Well, those three sentences you quoted were grippers. Or gripers, I’m not sure which.
I have a great idea for your blog. You need one of the gadgets like my fish tank, only it should be feed the hedgehogs. I would so love to feed your hedgehogs.
Are you sure the hedgehogs are fighting and not mating? Rabbits have a mating ritual in which the male rushes at the female, who waits until just before he reaches her and then leaps into the air to make him miss. It’s hilarious to watch. (I guess when she gets worn out from all the leaping, he gets to have his fun. Not sure about that though.)

A 13th birthday in Croatia sounds cool. I hope she has a good party. I hope her brother has a calm one (I’m sure that’s just what he’s planning, uh-huh). He’ll probably be dutifully job hunting the whole time. My oldest son celebrated his 24th b’day flying back from Kenya and between the time changes and the flight change in London, he had a 36 hour b’day on 3 continents! I always thought that had style.
July 8, 2008 at 11:23 pm
Thanks for the tag, Daffy! Yay!
I love little cars like that…I am not too speedy and little cars are so cute
Do you have much to do to get ready for your big trip?

(sadly, my 2009 price guide is the closet book, under that, the dictionary, under that, a short picture book, under that, ohhh!!!)
“For this example, the Aloha Flight 243 crash on April 28,1988, in Hawaii occurred to a plane that had completed ninety thousand flights in twenty-two years and therefore, ninety thousand cycles of pressurization and depressurization. Suddenly a section of fuselage was torn away as the plane approached it’s cruising altitude near Hawaiian Islands, sucking out a flight attendant through the open ceiling of the first-class section. All passengers strapped in by their seatbelts were saved by extraordinary skills of the pilots, who safely landed the crippled craft.”

Good luck with his job hunting though.

Thanks for your visit to me blog and the comment. Please stop by any time, my door is always open and the welcome mat always out.
What a cute little car….. Might be slow as blue blazes, but I bet it gets great gas mileage. I’ve always found the uglier and smaller the car the better the gas mileage.
You lucky girl. Not only a hedgehog, but tickets to Elton John as well. Life is good!
July 9, 2008 at 1:09 pm
LOL I love your Puegothogs!! Oooh hols soon, hope you have a smashing time sugarpops!

July 9, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Your car comments had me laughing out loud, and I love Glo’s image of it with the hedgehogs!
Thanks for a nice cheery entry on a very uncheery day! xx
July 9, 2008 at 7:12 pm

Diva the holiday can’t come soon enough I am de-mob happy already! How much did Nags say that 50 stone woman weighed? hehe xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Loved the huggles! xxxx
.
Jo hi and welcome and thanks for the return visit.
.
Amanda he thinks its cool but I wonder if it’s because it’s automatic and he thinks that if he learns in an automatic it would be easier than a manual. *rolls eyes* Lazy boys!
.
As you can see Flighty I have it in the entry, a very ‘mobile pair of hedgehogs indeed’!
.
Glo you are fantastic! I loved that video. Good things _do_ come in small packages!
Loved the sporty looking hogs too! (hodgehegs as my boy calls them!)
.
Hi Dawn, Andy is 13 on 24th July, we fly out on the 22nd so she’s hoping we will have found a nice place for a meal to celebrate by then. I love summer holidays! I’m a little apprehensive about leaving the lad home alone but my brother, my brother in law and my dad and in-laws have promised to make sure he’s ok. (I’ve spoiled his fun already I’m sure!)
.
AC – I like the smart cars but believe it or not this car is for four people! I know! I have tested it too, I had my daughter and her two (tall) friends in on Tuesday night and they fit like a glove!
.
B&T – so glad I found your funny bone!
.
Hayden, very adorable but soooooo slooooooow
) Thanks for doing the tag! Great sport!
)
) Cheers Laura. (I did overtake a cycle tonight…. really!)
)
) – Never lets you down! (no pressure Laura))
)
)
.
SB – I’m going to get this book for my hubby for his reading material on the flight! hehe Thanks for being a great sport too SB.
.
Laura, I love that you did the tag even though you thought you had done it before. If I get a meme to do….you’re my woman!
.
I’ve got to clean house Tracie, making sure the house is clean and tidy ready for him to trash! haha. I know he won’t (I hope, I hope, I hope) Your lad knows how to have a prolonged fab birthday doesn’t he!
.
Ruth it’s a great book, granted, it’s not one of those you can’t put down, but it is one of those you can pick up anytime. I like Michael Palin too, he does have that certain something doesn’t he?
I need a gadget…. you are right, but I will also need a gadget friendly brain to get it in the blog. I love your fish! My son has fed them tonight! Very theraputic.
Mating! I hadn’t thought of that… now I feel like a voyeur.
.
Chris, no probs, I enjoyed it. A tag is exactly that, clue is in the title and I am like you….if people don’t want to do them then they don’t have to but you have to carry on the tradition and tag folk anyway. (Handy hint – Laurab loves memes!
Oh Chris, definitely not too old. My Aunty Connie is fabulous at 62 and she was with me at the Elton John Concert, and the Westlife concert (twice) and Il Divo….. never too late, but I do think it’s a great experience.
.
Hi Carol…. it’s a trundling machine that’s for sure! Yeah, Elton was amazing… really good, sounded just like he does on the record… showing my age… I mean CD man!
July 9, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Hey Flighty you snook in there! I’m so glad you enjoyed the entry and yes, Glo’s image is perfect and as you can see I put it where it belonged to be…. in the entry.
)
(My son was looking at it and he never noticed the hedgehogs! hehe)
July 10, 2008 at 3:34 am

Um……..did my comment go into your spam??? ARG!.,…..it was a long one too!
July 10, 2008 at 1:06 pm
well the last one appreared. CRAP!
ANyhooo, my first one (that you apparently didn’t get) asked if you wore a helmet, elbow and knee pads when you drove your rental??? That thing is scary small!
I then said that I too drive a manual car and when I borrow someones automatic, I too am pounding my foot into the floor looking for the clutch and trying to jam the automatic gear shift out of the “D” for drive position!!

July 10, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Hummm… I wonder if those hedgehogs are married.
That Peugeot is cute. But then, so is a miniature poodle.
That’s quite a fancy ticket they created for Sir Elton!
When mom and dad are away, the kiddies do play.
Have a grand week, Daffy!
July 10, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Hi Nick! I do hope so! *rolls eyes* I’m a little worried as I saw a rather squished up looking hedgehog on the roadside this morning so I’m anxious to see if both of my hedgehogs come visit tonight!
It’s a nice ticket isn’t it? Nice to put away as a keepsake.
You have a great rest of the week and a good weekend. Higs for both you and Alex… the blogging cat! xx
July 10, 2008 at 7:24 pm
What are higs? I mean hugs… I don’t know how to edit my own comments! haha
July 11, 2008 at 7:08 am
Maybe higs are related to hogs?……like a hedgehig or hedgehug.
July 11, 2008 at 7:16 am
