I should blog properly but…
I’m too tired! I’m sorry to all my friends who I thought I would whizz around to visit this afternoon. The blog I was going to do was a tag but it looks too difficult for me to get my head around today. I saw the words graphics and programme and I panicked! So Later in the week Chris, I will do my tag!
So what’s new?
My iron blew up yesterday and I got very excited as I thought it was a sign from God that my ironing days were over! Sadly that was not the case and it seems it was just my irons time to go… I got myself a sporty looking one with green go-faster stripes so it looks as though my slow-iron days are over!
My daughter and I have been shopping for holiday clothes today. She got loads I got very little. A lot of parents will relate to this, but I seem to struggle to spend money on myself. I have bought my daughter all of her clothes, my son a couple of t-shirts and I even got my husband a couple of books and a pair of shorts… Me? Nothing! It’s as if I see it as a waste as soon as I turn my attention to myself. My mum was the same. It was if she could always ‘make-do’ as long as everyone else was sorted and I am exactly the same. It’s not as if I don’t like new things… I really do. I’ll try again in a week or two.
Two Lovely Awards.
This one is from my dear friend Flighty. It’s a very fitting award as he does call me a ‘Charming Chatterbox’. I joke with him and use other words instead of ‘charming’ and ‘chatterbox’ but he won’t have me changing it!
)
I’d like to award it to Dawn, to Louise, and to Mylozmom. Three like-minded ladies I love to chat with.

This lovely award is from Chrisb. I think Chris and I have a similar sense of humour and I’m certain that if we were closer we would certainly be arranging more than one coffee morning together!
)
I would like to award this to Flighty, Christy and Glo. Three people who more than make my day!
)
It’s time to test drive my iron… then I think I will test drive the sofa…
)
oh! my daughter bought Watership Down today, so if you hear sobbing and see a lot of disgarded soggy hankies lying about, don’t worry! We’ll be fine.
May 5, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Dearest daffy, that’s why everything I buy is synthetic fabric – if I can help it. That and the fact that my thighs will automatically ‘iron’ out any wrinkles in my upper legs. That’s good enough for me!
May 5, 2008 at 4:41 pm
haha PI, that is genius! I have thighs that could do that too!
) I’m feeling a bit lazy today and at the moment I’ve only got as far as getting the iron out of the cupboard! Next step will happen as soon as I have had another sit down and a coffee!
May 5, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Which test drive went better – the iron or your sofa?
My friend was visiting recently and she wanted to use my iron. It’s been so long since I’ve used it that I didn’t know where to find it. She had to go to another friend’s house in order to iron her suitcase-wrinkled clothes.
May 5, 2008 at 7:11 pm
daffy do not feel any pressure to do the tag!
May 5, 2008 at 7:20 pm
I can relate to buying for your childern and nothing for yourself! I am the very same way!
May 5, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Thanks so much Daffy, I have just discovered my award, what a lovely surprise. It’s funny how you choose an iron like a car these days, looks are important aren’t they, although I always choose one with steam, I cannot possible iron without steam! I hate shopping for clothes, I really struggle with leg lengths, they are either too long or ankle swingers!
May 5, 2008 at 8:34 pm
As soon as I was given the Good Chat Blog Award I just knew that I had to award it to you!
Thank you, with *hugs* for the You Make My Day one. It’s always nice to be given such an award and is much appreciated.
As for you and ironing…! I’ve seen people buy irons and it nearly always centred on colour, make, price and/or weight.
As you say I’m sure that you’ll have a better shopping day for yourself another time!
Having been plotting busily all morning I’ve been sofa flying since late afternoon! I’ve been sorting what seeds are going on the Daffy’s Delights and Nikki’s Corner areas later this week. xx
May 5, 2008 at 9:19 pm
I am not much of a shopper, although I especially dislike shopping for myself. I just skip it when I can…same with ironing. I guess I am never going to be a domestic goddess. *sigh*
May 6, 2008 at 1:01 am
a racing stripe on your iron? how fab! hope it makes ironing more fun!
May 6, 2008 at 3:58 am
Wow! An award ~ that is very special! Thanks so much Daffy…:)
Your sentence: My iron blew up yesterday and I got very excited as I thought it was a sign from God that my ironing days were over! ~ had me laughing out loud…once I figured out of course, that you hadn’t been scorched!
Good job on the shopping and getting everyone some new togs, etc…hope you will get in the right frame of mind to treat yourself as well. Perhaps that’s what the exploding iron’s real message was…”There’s nothing pressing here, off you go…”
Thanks again
May 6, 2008 at 12:03 pm
I think there’s someone in most families who tends to put themselves last when it comes to buying. For the sake of solvency, it’s probably a good thing.
May 6, 2008 at 1:48 pm
As you probably could have guessed Daff, I HATE IRONING! almost as much – or maybe even more than I hate cleaning. I thank God regularly that my husband works in IT so he rarely needs a dress shirt (or anything else) ironed. Our iron lives in the closet and it seems quite content never seeing the likes of me. That said, you know I AM GREEN WITH ENVY over your awesome sounding Green-stripey iron. Perhaps that would make ironing more pleasant for me. Hmm. Nope.
You & I will have to go shopping together one day, so we can fawn all over the cute stuff and buy things for each other. That might assuage our guilt. I am exactly the same way when it comes to shopping for myself. It’s a struggle. I’ll buy John a $1300 TV, but me, I can’t seem to spend $5 w/out pondering whether I REALLLLLLY NEED [whatever it is]. It’s a struggle. Maybe it comes with being a mom?
THANKS SO MUCH for the lovely award!!! I am off right now to post it on my blog. You always make me smile. xoxoxoxo
May 6, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Look how freaking sweet you are!! Oh my goodness I am so honored honey! Thank you thank you THANK YOU for being so fantasticly thoughtful!
YOU ROCK!
May 6, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Hi Sweetie, perfect awards for you and hope you get some little something that will make your holiday go well. And your speedy iron? You’re going to set records
May 6, 2008 at 7:40 pm
I dont iron i guess i’m just sloppy!
May 7, 2008 at 12:58 am
Watership Down…. my mother’s very favourite book! I’ve read it three times.
Did she buy the book or a video?
May 8, 2008 at 5:55 am
It was the dvd Granny shammy.
) I still cry when I watch it! The book is very good though too. (better?)
)
) Thank you so much, nice to have you back and I’m looking forward to more pics!
) xx
) xx
)
)
) The shopping we should work on though… the ironing, well let’s not huh?
)
) You are more than welcome, the award you gave made my day so I hope the one it return did the same for you! xx
) I guess I’m lucky that I can always buy ‘off the peg’ but it always look better on the shop window dummy than it does on me! The award is well deserved! x
)
)
.
I wish I could get a way with Tiffany! Slopy sounds good to me.
.
The Chocolate arrived safely and it is in an even safer place now Nikki!
.
MM You are so, so welcome! What would I do without our ‘girly’ moments when we put the world right!
.
Christy I new you would love the iron! I’m all for shopping together! Actually I think if I went on a girly outing where I could have another opinion I might be able to treat myself more than once!
You are welcome! Of course!
.
Solvency AC! Good point. I feel better now becasue I feel as though I am giving a service by not indulging too often!
.
The thing is Glo, this is not the first time I have had an iron ‘die’ on me… surely there is a message in there somewhere! As for something more pressing… poking my eyes out with a hot knitting needle is more favoured to ironing!
.
CWG – I tried to think of it as more fun with the new iron but I’m afraid it’s just the same as ironing without the sporty addition. I wonder if I could hire someone in?
.
Laura b….twins!
.
Flighty you have had some lovely weather this week! I think it’s that sun dance I did for you… it must be working. I’m loving seeing all of the colour and the greenery just burst out all over the place. Now we can’r be greedy and we must have a little bit of rain to keep the colours greeny and bursty!
.
Louise are ankle swingers not the ‘in’ thing at the moment?
.
Chris, Pressure? Pressure? *steam leaves ears* Oh, that’s ok, I am just in awe at how you got the writing in the bottle place… I read the instructions too… Thanks so much for my lovely award!
.
The sofa won out by a mile Carol! The iron lost it’s newness excitement in about 30 seconds.. The sofa somehow manages to hold my attention for a lot longer!
.
Phew… that’s a lot of typing at 6.30 in the morning, now where is that sofa!
May 8, 2008 at 12:57 pm

May 8, 2008 at 1:00 pm
Hi Tiffany! I like funny cats!
)
I’m coming over for a look.
May 8, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Er, Daffy, one question for clarification.
Um … What’s an iron?
(BTW. thanks for your kind comments about my flash fiction ‘Always loving but never lovers’ – you make all the work worthwhile
)
May 8, 2008 at 2:27 pm
haha Rob! You either wear creased shirts or you have a lovely lady ironing person in your household. Of course there is a third option that I struggle to come to terms with… buying clothes that always appear pressed! How? Why? How come?
)
May 8, 2008 at 4:12 pm
I’M SO GLAD YOUR PACKAGE CAME!
I sent it around a month ago and have been kicking myself for having put “chocolates” right there on the green sticker – practically an invitation for postal workers to “misplace” this parcel! Yay!
May 9, 2008 at 1:56 am
A woman that still irons. I am impressed!
May 9, 2008 at 5:33 am
I iron with attitude though Philip…does that still count?
)
) It was much appreciated.
)
.
There is a funny story attached the parcel of chocolate Nikki, I wiskk share with you at some point. It had Flighty and I giggling!

shakes head; ooh, it’s been a few days since I last left a comment here – I realise what it was – my brain is set to ignore anything that mentions “shopping for clothes” or “ironing” and for the best part of the week I thought you were talking about a sofa (and the only thing I think of when I think of sofas is (hey – stop sniggering! – I don’t know whose mind you’re reading but those thoughts are most definitely not mine!) Douglas Adams’s “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” (a blooming good/funny IMHO book BTW)) and I thought “you’ll not care for me going on and on about some impossible sofa conundrum…” of course, had I not partaken of some alcoholic beverage last night and re-read it (alcohol defeats the anti-iron /clothing shopping filters in my brain) I wouldn’t have realized that there was so much more in there – of course – today and sober – I’ve no recollection of whatever it is you said except for the sofa and Watership down (that I just spotted at the bottom(oh – and those awards – couldn’t be awarded to a nicer person)) and I realize I’m waffling on an awful lot for someone who has no idea what he’s going on about (and that’s different to usual, how exactly?) coughs
Watership down – have to say it is one of my favourite stories, and one of my favourite animated films. I used to have both of the books (as they did a sequel/collection of short related stories a few years back)
Anyway,
wish you a great weekend – it’s a bit damp here today – but hopefully the sun’ll return for us all to enjoy it.
Catch you later

Happy [US] Mothers Day, Trace!!!! xoxo
May 9, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Svlad Cjelli! Didn’t Harry Enfield portray him in the BBC Radio 4 programmes? I’m not as daft as you look!
)
)
I love your rambling wild mad comments… It’s like being taken on a magical mystery tour and goodness knows where we will end up! Oh and I read ‘Sofa Condom…1′! Whoops!
.
Oh Christy! Happy Mothers Day! I’m sure your lovely girls will give you a day to remember and I bet John has something planned too! (No pressure John! ;o)
Hugs! Hugs! and a few more Hugs! xxxx
May 9, 2008 at 1:44 pm
nods – I only just (via wikipedia) heard about the R4 programmes – apparently they’re going to be doing the 2nd book in June this year…
(oh – and I’m impressed – you’re definitely not daft… as… I … look…? wait… were you insulting me? hmm? nah, must be a typo
(mental note: stop wearing the clown costume to work, people are starting to talk )(A more mental note: you don’t have a clown costume) (What?) (no)(um)…(etc))
Sofa condom
Surely that’s the correct term for all that plastic wrap they cover them in prior to delivery (it means that the furniture can indulge in all sorts of “fooling around” with the “easy chairs” in the warehouse without worrying about bringing unwanted stools into the world.
Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your perspective
) wild, mad and rambling is the way my brain seems to work… or whatever it is that lurks between my ears… fluff and stuff
Catch you later
hugs

Have a good weekend! xx
You’ll be smiling at this http://nikkipolani.wordpress.com/2008/05/09/elephants-in-paris/
May 9, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Oooh, Daffy & Mas, … I’m a Douglas Adams fan too, and I have the first of the BBC’s Dirk Gently stories featuring Mr Enfield on CD if you want to borrow it!
My favourite Adams quote is his definition of flying from THHGTTG!
May 9, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Jason – oh that came straight into my head – you have to throw yourself at the ground … and miss
…doing a search to confirm (which is a sad reflection of how “essential” the internet has become to my life!!) as the books are only over there (points) on my shelf) gave me this :
http://hhgproject.org/entries/flying.html
have to say I’d love to borrow the CD – but – I’m a bit behind on things here and it’d probably sit around gathering dust for far too long just at the moment – but a big “thank you” for the offer (once I’m caught up I might take you up on it though, if the offer remains open)
have a good weekend

May 10, 2008 at 7:11 am
Mas you crack me up!
) xx
) I should use it to my advantage but I am too sweet!
.
Flighty – Wow! She is the original ‘Elephant Finder’. I think my enthusiasm has rubbed off on her!
You have a great weekend too! Plotting weather perhaps?
.
Jason – I made the mistake of mentioning it to my dad and his mentality is, anything I merely mention – I get!
Oh and I will share with a Douglas Adams fact….
~ In 1994, Douglas Adams climbed Mount Kilimanjaro wearing a rhino suit, for the British charity “Save the Rhino”, earning £100,000.~
May 11, 2008 at 1:11 am
I do this sort of thing, too (buying for my daughter first or “only”). I’m not sure how to fix it, except to slip a thing or two in, against my will. It’s a “mother” thing.
May 12, 2008 at 5:30 am
When Daffy says she has bought nothing for herself
I can only conclude – she has become a naturist
May 13, 2008 at 2:47 pm
You sound very busy!!! I hate when life gets in the way of work!
My love and thoughts to your Daughter!

May 21, 2008 at 12:24 am
Congratulations on the awards and thanks so much for the good chat award. I must say chatting has not been very possible lately, but once I get to the middle of June things should be back to normal.
So funny about the iron. I don’t iron any more, but there are some things I do need to do, I just avoid wearing them; time for them to go to good will. Our son T has some shirts he needs ironed so does them himself. Glad you got yourself a nice sporty model, must be like a sports car to be going quicker also.
May 22, 2008 at 12:35 pm
I wish I didn’t iron anymore… I can’t seem to get rid of the job at all!
) xx

You are very welcome for your award, it was completely deserved!

You are welcome Tiffany!

Cheers Donna, hope you are ok too. xx

Peter – Me with nothng on is a scary prospect….

Hi Lisa, glad to know I am not alone.
