Horton Hears a Who!

Now my daughter is no longer an age whereby I can use her as an excuse to see all the movies aimed at children aged five or thereabouts…. or is she?

Of course she is! Like Mother like daughter! You can’t put an age limit of family fun!

We have had the best Easter Saturday, with the boys off to watch Newcastle United play football on the frozen terraces (the boys that is not the footballers! They play on the pitch!)we headed into town.

This film is wonderful, you just have to go and see it! No age limits I tell you!  The two of us chortled, giggled and guffawed the entire way through!

After the film we treated ourselves to lunch here. Nandos. Eating chicken with your fingers is not frowned upon here! We had a platter to share of chicken, fries, corn on the cob and garlic bread!

We rolled out of Nandos and headed for the shops where I purchased a couple of Easter eggs for my good kids. (Thankfully I have no naughty ones!)  My daughter managed to prize a rather lovely Tatty Ted T.shirt out of me and a cute candy striped hoody!

Me To You Tee  New Look if anyone was wondering!

She did manage to get her own purse open and once the moths flew out she found some money to spend on a DVD.

She is into wrestling in a big way, thankfully only a spectator! :o )

So I would say the weekend so far has been very good indeed.

The decorating is half done… do you want to see it?

User submitted image It’s a peppermint green which is a wonderful fresh colour. Quite a change from the coffee colour we had on before.  No doubt the painting will resume tomorrow but all work and no play makes daffy very dull!
Oh, one more thing, my girl is wonderful…. Look at what she bought her mummy….

It sounds like you’ve had yourselves a fun filled day!
The decorating looks to be going well, and I like that spring-like colour.
That’s a fancy looking Easter egg…enjoy! Stay warm. xx

  2. Dawn Says:

Sounds like a great weekend and fun time with your daughter. I really like that fresh green colour and looking at that corner that is the colour I have been thinking of for my shower room, but still have yet to get started on it. What a lovely yummy gift from your daughter.

  3. daffy Says:

Hi Flighty – We have had a great day! Really good fun and to top it off Newcastle won! (For a change!) I think you would like the film…. not just because Horton is an elephant either!
The colour is really lovely, a nice fresh colour for our nice fresh nicotine free lives!
    .
Dawn I would share but I don’t think I can! ;o) She is so thughtful! She also knows I love Ferrero Rocher! I really enjoy spending time with her, she is alot of fun! Has a great sense of humour so we tend to laugh more than anything else!

  4. As your feast of delight – on such a day – brought a smile upon your face – remember too – that Easter brings a chocolate Easter Egg or two :)

Have a wonderful Easter to all of you.

** ps – hopefully you can now leave a comment, I’m still getting the hang of LJ – such as the pitfalls of a superior mind – I feel ;)

  5. MY favourite childhood story was “Horton, the Elephant Hatches an Egg. There was a time when I could recite from memory large, of not all, parts of it. My 1951, copy is quite tattered. I am not sure I would want to see a movie that did not have Horton, as the gentle gullible giant who was faithful, (100%) loyal and accepting of his fate in life only to be rewarded in the end. Your movie I suspect trivializes Horton’s accomplishments.

You girl’s day out seemed to be a big success.

  6. Steffi Says:

Very nice colour on your wall! I like this colour peppermint green!Your new T-shirt looks good and cute!
    Have a nice easter sunday!

  7. mmm…the food at nando’s looks tempting. sadly there isn’t a nando’s on my side of the pond. :(

the foyer looks nice with the new paint. glad you had a nice day! happy easter!

Happy Easter Trace! Love the GREEN paint (my favorite) :) I took the girls to see Horton this week and we loved it too. Hope you are having a wonderful day. Thinking of you.

  9. lisa Says:

    I love the green. It’s so Spring-like. :)

  10. Will you ever attain the age of ‘40′? or will the chocolate allow you a little while longer…….

It’s good to share – especially Easter Eggs ;)

  11. daffy Says:

My Mate (SW) I’ve saved you a bit of chocolate! I’ll send it via pigeon although I’m not sure how far North they fly. :o )
I’ve still got quite a bit of ‘approaching’ to do thank you very much! ;o)
I’ll be sure to visit you soon! (I needed it making easier for me, Dawn has helped too (Thanks Dawn) xx
    .
Lisa, hello, it is nice isn’t it. It doesn’t look so good all over my hubbys stubble though! :o )
    .
Hi Christy and family! ;o) It was a hoot… no hard plot to follow that makes your brain hurt. Hope you are all having a great weekend. The painting has resumed today! xxx
    .
CWG – Hello! Nandos, is really quite a find…. good food, nice surroundings but without the stuffiness of certain behaviour standards. The importance is on the chicken which I think is very important! ;o) Hope youare enjoying the break!
    .
Hi Steffi – Thanks but the t-shirt is my daughters. I think I might not carry it off as well as she does! xx
    .
Hi Philip, films have a habit of ripping the heart out of a good traditional story but you will be pleased to know that Hortons character is 100% untouched. He has all of his original values. Hope you are having a nice Easter. x

  12. Louise Says:

Hope you are having a great Easter and enjoying your break from work. We here have both seriously overdosed on chocolate, have you eaten that egg yet and have all those little nests flown, and how many other eggs have you got hidden away? A good idea to leave the football to the boys and to go and have a good girls day out, and to finish off with a meal at this Nandos place, I have never seen one near here. I have looked up your link and I notice peri-peri chicken is on the menu, we had this in the Algarve and absolutely loved it. Did you know that Schwartz herbs do a piri-piri seasoning, I sprinkle it over chicken thighs and roast them, it is lovely, but the more you use the hotter it is! I really like the peppermint green, so much so I have got the same colour with me here in the spare room, where the PC is, it is a nice summer colour. Bye for now and enjoy the rest of your Easter. x

  13. “He meant what he said, and he said what he meant:
An elephant’s faithful one hundred percent.”

Would it seem absurd for an old dude like me to go into a theater to watch it without his grandkids?

    Easter blessings to you all!

  14. My husband absolutely adores ‘kids’ movies, but then – he worked at Disney for 14 years! We go see those movies with no shame in our game.

  15. nikkipolani Says:

The room colour is terrific, Daffy! I like its brightness very well. I have also considered seeing Horton – it’s done very very well here in its initial two weeks. I always say I like to see the animation, but you know…… Hope you had a terrific Easter!

  16. I guess the pigeon was unable to take off – it must have had a taste for chocolate :(

As Newcastle has finally won a game under wee Kevin Keegan – I guess some of the Magpie suporters will be hungover – may it long continue – the winning I mean :)

  17. Sirdar Says:

I don’t know if our kids want to see Horton Hears a Who. Hard to say. Maybe the youngest might.

I don’t think we have Nando’s here. Checked out the menu….looks good.

  18. daffy Says:

Sirdar but that is what I’m saying… you probably would think you wouldn’t want to see it but will have a great time when you do. We saw a trailer for Kung Fu Panda and I am so ready for that one! Definitely worth a visit to Nandos if you have one.
    .
Peter you have no idea how the outcome of a match can dramatically change the mood in our home. An away match is good too but a home match! Well they are positively uplifted! Still no chocolate? Silly bird must have got lost.
I tried to comment at your place but I don’t now if it worked.
    .
Hi Nikki – the room is very spring-like and hopefuly will suit summer (if) when it arrives. I love a freshly painted room. Just a little gloss-work to do and then the walls can be filled!
    .
That’s the spirit PI! There is no shmae in liking animation, simple funny films with out the headache of working out the plot. :o ) My kind of film. Did your husband work for Disney? I bet that was a brilliant job.
    .
And he remained faithful Nick! Oh I wish I was closer, I would have collected you myself and we could have guffawed in the cinema whilst stuffing our faces with popcorn! Sounds like too much fun! :o )
    .
Hi Louise, we first tried Piri-piri when we were at Portugal and loved it. The good thing is you don’t have to have a hot piri-piri. You can choose the heat in your sauce!
I’ll have to try some of that, I usually just wrap my chickens in bacon and season with Italian seasoning which is basic but nice. Yours does sound lovely! (Even at 6.30 in the morning!)

  19. Rest assured your comment was received – but I always analyse before allowing publication ;)

I wonder how many folk will be at the duck pond this day – as they “waddle” their way along the path – the ducks will be envious – if only the knew it was the Easter Eggs in abundance – that makes them “waddle” this way…

  20. daffy Says:

How do you not know I have waddle before the immense amounts of chocolate have been consumed?
Ah yes, I popped over to see you earlier… I think you were still snoring! I heard a gentle drilling noise!

  21. VP Says:

Hi Daffy – sounds like you had a fantastic time.

Mentioning Newcastle United reminds my of the time when I lived right next to St James’ Park. It was before the new stadium was built and I could just see into 1 corner of the ground from my (student) room. Spookily, said corner was the 1 place I couldn’t see when I actually went inside to watch a match!

  22. daffy Says:

You had a magic vantage point then VP! :o ) I’m wondering if you lived in the student flats I see now when I go there, built in a square with the most lovely looking architecture? The stadium now is pretty impressive with its extra seating up in the Gods…. I can’t believe you can see form up there but the atmosphere is amazing!
We had a great time! (My daughter is really good company, very funny.) :o )
