Sparkly and Bright
Another rather relaxing weekend has been and gone. I’ve no complaints as I remember last year, towards the end of it, I barely had time to turn around. If, for the next few weekends I find the time to relax occasionally, to sit and contemplate what is next, then I won’t complain.
My favourite daughter has been ill this weekend, the poor mite is plagued by colds lately, one after another and they always seem to fell her.
My husband was looking at her yesterday and he commented on how poorly she looked. He felt her brow and sent me upstairs for a blanket. He tucked it around her as she lay on the sofa not complaining.
We have two two-seater sofas in our big sitting room and a chair. It does seem strange to lay claim to a seat but we have. I have the two-seater facing the fire and my husband has the two-seater facing the tv. The chair has no main claimant, it just belongs to whichever spare child we have with us but to be honest my husband and I are no longer considered hip or cool when it comes to holding their attention for any length of time which would be worth ’sitting’ for! If ever we were lucky enough to have both children in the room with us for any length of time then the chair is there for one and my husband gives up half of the two seater. Would I share my seat? I suppose if I had to I would but my kids know me as a crazy space freak so they wouldn’t encroach if they could avoid it!
So with his daughter tucked in and looking rather cosy my husband made his way to the kitchen.
“Pardon?” I said. Sure I heard muttering.
“I said that she needn’t think she’s lying there all night, I don’t care how sick she is!”
I couldn’t stop laughing, my eyes were filled with tears as my husband turned tail and headed back to the ’sick-bay’ cooing and fussing over the little one.
Other than nursing my girl I didn’t really do much, I shopped and cleaned as usual. I did have a moment on Sunday morning when my brain seemed to over-rule my common sense and before I could turn away I had all of the vertical blinds down. Now take note if you are a neat-freak as I am.
All the plastic bits need to be kept safe, put them in a large bowl of boiling water and vinegar and leave for a while. The actual blinds themselves need to be gathered together and rather than actually ‘folding them’ so the edges can be used as weapons, just loop it around in a figure-eight, bending rather than folding and place in a white or cream pillow case. Fold the flappy bit over to make sure they all stay in. Place the filled pillowcase into an empty washer and set to run on a 30 degree wash.
I was feeling less than confident at this point and I must admit I had an urge to check the washing machine every two or three minutes. I had envisaged something that resembled a huge paper-mache model greeting me when I eventually took the pillowcase out but I needn’t have worried. They hung beautifully and I was so pleased with the result. As well as being surprised… I seemed to even get the cleaning technique on the windows perfect too as my son said they looked as though they had no glass in them! No glass! That means no smears, how refreshing that was as they usually look as though I have cleaned them with the unique method of dragging a dead cat around them.
What else?
Oh I polished my apples.

Would you consider coming across the Atlantic to clean for me??? You make it all sound SO EASY. Boy do I hate cleaning. Hope your daughter’s on the mend soon!

Hi Daffy, I hope poorly daughter is less poorly now, you have given up your settee for her haven’t you? We have a three-seater, two-seater, armchair and a pouffe in our lounge if you can count that, J is always sprawled on the two-seater and I am banished to the three-seater all by my lonesome. Are you going to share your secret for smear-free windows, mine always look terrible, I have tried the white vinegar and newspaper trick to no avail. Fancy having time to polish your apples and Flighty will love to see those kitkats, I haven’t spotted those in my local yet, I shall buy some next visit, that’s if we can get those posh ones down ‘ere in the South. x

I’m sorry to hear that Lil’F still isn’t feeling too good and hope that she gets better soon.

Have a good week! xx

Sorry to hear Lil’F is poorly, hope she gets well soon.
Sure sounds like you know how to whoop it up at weekends Daffy !!! LOL !!! Cleaning blinds eh… wow, sounds like fun.
Your right, it’s funny how we stake claim on a particular sofa… I like our three-seater best as it offers a better view of the TV I think and I can stretch out too !!!
Hope you have a good week Daffy.

BP – I’m just a party animal! Whooping indeed!
I’m not always this sad you know, but I must admit I did enjoy the relaxing pace and of course with the little one not so well it made sense to stay home and keep warm. I had to be on hand for emergency cuddles although it seems dads cuddles work better! ;o)
Listen to you posh lot with your three seaters! lol (I have one in the other room but its now known as the ‘love sofa’ as the cuddling duo are usually on that one!)
February 18, 2008 at 4:57 pm
I think it’s funny how you can tell what the ‘papa chair’ is sometimes. He deserves an award for sharing his, lol.
February 18, 2008 at 5:13 pm

Oh, you a brave! I don’t think I’d try the washing machine, though I may have to go to blinds if these cats continue tearing around my curtains. Glad the little one is on the mend. A bit of TLC is good for the soul.
February 18, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Nikki it breaks my heart to see her so poorly, but she is getting so much TLC, even her big brother was fussing about her today. (To be fair this is not unusal for my two to fuss over eachother, not now anyway, I think they have matured!) I thought I was brave too! I was so pleased with the result. I sound like a fussy housewife now don’t I? xxx
February 18, 2008 at 8:25 pm
I hope your daughter is beginning to feel better. I am a big fan of vinegar for household tasks, oh, and mother swears by newspaper to buff up glass!
February 18, 2008 at 8:31 pm
vinegar as opposed to dead cats Chris?
)
Vinegar! I’ve seen that on a blog somewhere in blogland! *smiles*
My girl is picking up and I thank you for your enquiry. She is a real fun girl and I can’t wait for her to give me some of that quick-wit-cheek again!

You stopped by my blog and wanted to know the tune playing and the piano player. The player is Oscar Peterson, who recently died. He was the world’s best
jazz pianist. If you back up on my blog a short way I wrote and entry about him. The piece he is playing is “I want to be Happy” You can find out more about him by googling his name. Here is a site the Government of Canada st up about him. http://www.lac-bac.gc.ca/oscarpeterson/index-e.html

Glad your daughter is feeling a bit better. We had a bit of something short lived going here this weekend. It was the 13 year old yesterday, 10 year old today, only lasting 10 hours. We made our house neater, but there is so much cleaning to do. My daughter cleans for other people and does a great job here, but still it seems so much to do.

‘Special’ chairs and house space certainly seem to be in evidence in most houses. I remember once I did not see my grandfather coming to his favourite seat at the side of the farmhouse open fire, until I felt his stick poking me…not a word was said, but I knew instantly that this was ‘his’ chair!
There is also the lovely story of the young lad visiting his girlfriend’s house for the first time. He took a seat and was chatting to his girlfriend’s mother for some time, and thought he was doing quite well!
Father came in from work and stood in the doorway. Only after some frantic signalling did the lad realise this and rose from the seat. Father went and sat down. ‘Sorry I was in your seat, sir’, said the young lad. ‘Actually, son’, said Father, ‘They all belong to me!’
One can only imagine how the lad felt about his chances with his girlfriend from then on!

And lovely and shiny those apples are too!

Hi Daffy ~~ I hope your daughter is quite well again now. Thanks for your comments and your hopes that my team keep winning. Glad you enjoyed the post and get some chuckles from it. Take care, Love, Merle.
February 19, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Oh your poor girl. I know the feeling of having a daughter who always seems to be sick.
and your hubby is priceless! I too was chuckling after reading this. That is for sure something that my hubby would say! And I’m sure your blinds look fab. *note to self, clean curtains in front room this weekend*. I can NOT clean glass well at all, want to come do mine for me?
and wow, that bar sounds yummy. I don’t think that flavor is here in Canada yet.
February 19, 2008 at 6:37 pm
haha Harry that sounds so like my dad in the day when I brought the odd possible brave suitor home.
) I can imagine my husband being the same when my daughter has the task also.
My dad has his own chair and his dog has all the others that are left!
)
Hope you are keeping warm its f-f-f- freezing here today!
.
Hi Dawn, well I hope your family are all feeling better too.
I actually enjoy cleaning, anything except the ironing, I find that to be a thankless task and will do anything to get out of it!
)
.
I did Philip and I am very grateful you stopped by with the information. I shall have a look and listen tonight when I get home. Many thanks for taking the time for me and for finding the link. ;o)

.
MM – Men! haha, well at least we know we got got ones with a fun sense of humour!
As for the glass, well I think it was a fluke, not sure how it happened, now if I can manage to get the glass coffee table and the mirror to match I’ll be fine!
I hope your girl is better now. Take care. xxx
February 19, 2008 at 7:33 pm
hahaha, that is why I don’t have ANY glass in my home. I’d be haunted by the fact that they were always smudged! And thank you for your concern about the peanut. She still has a dripping tap for a nose but I guess that comes with the territory eh!
