Mirror, Mirror.

I look into the oval shaped light that is mounted on the wall.

Framing what stands before me, I reach out as I recall.

Familiar features looking back, dark rings screaming ‘tired!’

When did this transformation occur, what had transpired?

Time that has passed has stolen my youth, I see it in the reflection.

Cruel ‘Old Man time’ has added wrinkles to my once soft complexion.

I smile and I see it returned, not only with the mouth but with the eyes.

I remember a million happy memories and one or two sad good-byes.

I choose to see a wonderful sculpture, which, just like a fine wine, time has made a good thing even better ;)

  2. Steffi Says:

    Good and true words,Daffy! I like it!Great!

  3. daffy Says:

ROFL! Boso I think your mirror is magic! ;o)
Just read about baby O, quite a scare, I hope things are better now. Hugs to the family!

Oh and does Mrs Boso agree with you? ;o)
    .
Steffi – Hi, and thank you. :o )

  4. flighty Says:

Very reflective! I love that last line, which is all too true. xx

  5. Sirdar Says:

I have the ‘crows feet’ around the eyes. And I am usually tired too. I think age must have something to do with it… :-)

PS: What are you going to call your blog when you actually get to 40?

When I joined the Scottish Youth Hostel Assn. at about 16 I had to have a ‘passport-type’ photo to go on the card. I carried that photo with me for decades as a reminder of how a callow-faced youth should look. I eventually had to acknowledge that it was not me and consigned it to the photo album.

With needing identity photos for all sorts of things now, I think we get used much quicker to the fact that we are always changing.

As far as the Young lady of the House, I tell her she is even prettier now than she was when I met her about 44 years ago….and it seems to please her for some reason….I wonder why!

  7. daffy Says:

Flighty – thanks. Not my best but it’s a start.
    .
    Sirdar – I don’t even know if I’ll still be blogging when I’m 40! :o ) It’s a long, long, long way off.
(19 months) Apparantly you are as old or as young as you feel … so this week about 90 for me then! :o )
    .
Aww Harry how sweet. My man never tells me anything as lovely as that. We have ten year passports and the difference from a fresh faced 28 year old to now is very apparant! :o )
We girls love a compliment. It’s nice to feel appreciated.

  8. nikkipolani Says:

I like this reflection poem very well, Daffy. It wanders a little just as our minds do when we’re looking at ourselves.

  9. bergerac Says:

A reality check with a difference – I guess that is why I keep my mirror shrouded with pipe tobacco and cobwebs – adds to the appeal and mystique ;)

Remember as long as a lady has – eye appeal – she has the men at her feet and their wallets too ……..

  10. mylozmom Says:

    very true isn’t it??

  11. divastar Says:

    HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! *BIG HUGS*
I really do feel like your post!
I do not have a clue what I’m doing, how to add favourites or anything, I’m just too tired to figure it out right now but I will! :o )

  12. daffy Says:

Diva! hi sweetpea, wow, I am loving my friends of old joining us and I bumped into sppadic and boso again which is great and of course mylozmom…. :o )
*big hugs* I love your little pic! xx
    .
MM – well hello and welcome! Good to see you. Your place looks very homely! xx
    .
Big Eyes – since when did pipe tobacco create mystique? Cobwebs?? I have tons of them I must be very mystique. :o )
I think I still have glass eye appeal… does that count? :o )
    .
Hi Nikki – Yes, I happened to stare too long at my reflection and these words poured out. Perhaps I should stay away from mirrors when I’m grumpy! haha. The truth hurts! ;o)

  13. divastar Says:

Spads and boso are on here too?! WOOT! I’m well happy now I’ve joined here, even a nappy change for Lincs can’t dampen the evening for me now! LOL
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  14. flighty Says:

Isn’t it nice to see friends such as divastar and mylozmum again! xx

  15. daffy Says:

Diva, no they aren’t on wordpress but they are about. *points to sidebar* and blogging again! Well Boso never stopped. Once you get sorted you can use links from mine or flighty’s or anyone sidebar and add them to yours. It’ll be home in no time! Nappy changes! those were the days! xxx
    .
    Flighty it is fantastic! xx

  16. I am almost 62 years old. I only look at my face in a mirror to comb (what’s left of) my hair and trim my beard.

  17. Pandy Says:

I love this poem, Daffy. Esp the line, “Cruel ‘Old Man time’ has added wrinkles to my once soft complexion” – I love the contrast in imagery in those words. Keep up the good work :D xxxxxxxxxxxx

  18. purplephreak Says:

hi, thanks for the comment! No I haven’t heard of O.A.R, though I don’t really listen to much radio anymore so who knows? What sort of stuff is it? I’ve noticed some people seem to be able to get their wordpress posts to publish simultaneously on Platform 27, don’t suppose you know how it works do you? I’m not the most technologically aware :(

  19. tmawesome Says:

    i know what you mean…
Thanks so much for the kind words on my blog! I’m definitely going to be sending home postcards today–my students have their first project presentation on people from the Civil War. I hope i’ve got all 12 to send home with great words of praise on them! xxx

  20. daffy Says:

Hi K, I’m sure all 12 will perform very well! You are encouraging them, how could they not do well! Keep smiling hun, not too long now. xx
    .
Hey Pandy thanks. Oh and Bruce! He’s a cute one isn’t he! xx
    .

62 Nick! No… I’d have said 21! Mirrors are evil places depending on your mood. Hope tomorrow goes ok for you. Hope the day is not too draining for you. Tale care.

  21. thedailydish Says:

I can hardly believe I’m already 35 years old. Where does the time go?? I look in the mirror and I know I look older, but inside I still feel like I’m 18.

  22. daffy Says:

Christy hello. I know what you mean… I’m only three years ahead of you but my late teens were only last week… weren’t they? :o )
I think that is why photos, blogs and scrap books are vitally important. The moment is over so quickly and we have great fun looking back and laughing at some of the very risky fashion sense or a bad haircut!

  23. bergerac Says:

Every little bit helps – even with a “glass eye” or two

Although with bifocals – I now have the advantage of escape ;)

  24. daffy Says:

Hey there Big Eyes! My dad is a nightmare with his bifocals… he is forever stepping over things that aren’t there or not stepping over things that are there! :o ) He gets them muddled up I think.
Glass eyes are more forgiving I find! ;o)

  25. bergerac Says:

Alas your Dad – has turned his bifocals the wrong way round – I fear

As for “glass eyes” – it depends who is on the receiving end ;)

I have to go back to the opticians – I guess they are trying to get more money out of my wee purse :(

  26. daffy Says:

Have you tried jam jar bottoms and chicken wire?

  27. bergerac Says:

alas that is for the NHS patients

I am a ‘Private’ patient – one has to be conservative you know ;)

  28. Peter Says:

Hi Daffy, thanks for visiting Poetry Galore, glad you enjoyed it, yes, there are a few of my poems scattered in there also a few of my Dads and my Maternal Grandfathers as well but its mostly just stuff I enjoy.
As you can see it doesn’t get many visitors, I do it mainly for me.
Am I right in assuming that you are TC ? you have no details on the “about” page.

  29. Merle Says:

Hi Daffy ~~ I loved your post, but can you imagine MY problem with mirrors as I am heading for 74 ???
Thanks so much for your visit and kind words on my blog.
BTW Peter at Holties House is my brother.
    Take care, Love, Merle.

  30. daffy Says:

Hi Peter – thanks for the return visit. I dropped you an e-mail this morning .
    .
Hi Merle, hope you are ok today. You don’t have to worry about mirrors you look fabulous! I’ve seeen the picture! ;o)
What a coincidence that you and Peter are brother and sister. I found his blog via another blog and never made any connection. That proves that I only visit really nice people! haha
Take care too Merle. Love n hugs. :o )

  31. bbZuSh Says:

    Beautiful wordings :-)

  32. daffy Says:

    bbZush – many thanks. :o )

  33. K Says:

did you get the package i sent you? i mailed it tuesday…..

  34. Fabulous Says:

aw thats nice. I have a mirror just outside my bedroom door. I stop at it each morning when i am taking the little one down stairs and i think…. how odd, i have a baby, do i look like a mummy?. Dont i look funny carrying such a small thing.

  35. daffy Says:

K – no not yet honey but the post comes via a pony and trap around here sometimes.. well ok, I’m not telling the truth but it is very slow at the moment. Let’s see what the weekend brings. :o ) I’m all excited now! Take care, hope you are well. xxx
    .
Mummy Fabulous – I love being a mum, I always say that it is the one thing I am good at and I put my all into and I must say I get the most rewards from it. You are a super mum and you only have to look like a mum to the little one that matters! xxxx

  36. daffy Says:

oh! Purple Phreak – sorry I missed your comment it went into my spam collector. :o ) I’m not sure how to do it but I know Milly Toast does it so it might be worth leaving her a message. (I have her link on my side bar) I’ve listened to that band a bit more now, OAR and they are really good, I thought you may have heard of them on your travels. I don’t think they are mainstream.
