Nelly Award

I was a little anxious at first.  I have driven my husbands car a few times but it’s so different to driving my own.  Of course I am limited to where I can go as parking can sometimes be an issue for me even with a smaller car.

Anyway, it’s back on the drive now and there were no casualties, except perhaps for my dad who didn’t know I could swear like that! ;o)

The shopping is done and put away and the three of us have been out to a little pub for lunch.  My dad had a great big whale with chips and mushy peas whilst  my daughter and I opted for a gammon steak with a pineapple and a fried egg.  Then we masterfully swapped an egg for pineapple slice.  My daughter either loves pineapple of hates eggs, I can’t remember which.

The boys have gone to Manchester today, possibly to see Newcastle beaten by Manchester Untied… but who knows… (Actually I know, but why have a half empty glass?) I was given the tickets as a gift from my boss, the only problem is that they are in the Man U end.  If, If, Newcastle score I dare bet those two and the two friends they have gone with, can’t help but shout and cheer.  I doubt my husband has enough reserve to stay tight lipped!

Oh! My award… You have to see the most fabulous award I received by a relaltively new friend but actually she feels like an ‘old’ friend, and I mean that in the nicest way Louise.

Isn’t it the best! I am ever so chuffed! This is such a wonderful award.  It makes me feel very pleased as I know it was given from the heart.  Thank you so much!

I would like to pass it on to three friends who I feel would appreciate it.

To Flighty, he too likes the elephant and as my oldest (read that both ways if you like!) blogging buddy and a friend away from the blogs I think he will be pleased.  Flighty has the ability to bring out the best in people.

To Mas, as another appreciator of the elephant I think this would cheer him up.  He’s had a rotten (touch of) cold over Christmas and he has had a rather tough year last year which was tinged with a mix of highs and lows.  I know he would have loved to have spent some time with one of his girls this week as it was her birthday.  This won’t come close to making things easier but I hope it makes him smile.

To Irish Pisky, Harry first came to see me after I posted about a holiday in Croatia and we have visited each other ever since.  I don’t know much about Harry but he leaves wonderful thoughtful comments.  The comments which you can read with interest and then they can take you away on a journey, they trigger wonderful memories for you.

Hope the weekend is going well for everyone.

That is a lovely award. I am watching a programme each day on TV about elephants. One of the things that has impressed me is how caring and they are towards each other. So this is a brilliant logo for blog buddies.

  2. It seems congratulations are in order:
    For driving without fatalities
For teaching your dad that you know how to curse
For being able to exchange food with you daughter
And, of course, for your new wonderful Award!

I shall withhold congratulations on Newcastle versus Manchester Untied pending learning the outcome

Sounds like you all had a great pub lunch, all the more appealing when it is cooked for you and the environment of a local pub with say a log fire – makes it all the more worth while.

A great day out for your hubbie and son etc, to Manchester and as long as they kept their colours hidden and tried to talk quietly – all should be okay.

Congratulations on your Award too – a cheer for you in returning the car safely to the drive – did you put the handbrake on????

    Congrats on the awards :-)

Hi Chris! Ah Elephant diaries! Hasn’t it been amazing and also a little sad. It’s on next week on Monday and Friday so try not to miss it.
I don’t really know what it is about elephants. I have ornaments, cushions, vases, even a t-shirt and a necklace. :o ) (I have an image in my silly mind of me wearing a necklace with a huge baby elephant attached to it like a dog with a coller on. :o ))
It is a good logo! I agree. Hope you are enjoying the weekend!
    .
Ah Nick! You are right! I have had a few firsts today!
The football result however…. 6-0 *groan* Oh dear. No manager and seemingly no players wanting to play from the heart. Thinks a looking gloomy for us! Hope you are ok, feeling better. I’ll pop over to see you soon. :o )
    .

haha Bergerac, I think they might have hidden their shirts for other reasons given the result!!
The lunch was great. It’s a nice little place just outside the City and we were watching the rabbits frolick on the grass from the window.
Well if I haven’t put the handbrake on the car will be joining me shortly in this room as I parked it on the drive facing inwards! haha. *runs for cover*
    .
bbZush – Thanks, they are a couple of rather happy looking elephants aren’t they! :o )

What a really lovely surprise! You did well not to mention this entry didn’t you!
I’m sure that you can guess at just how pleased I am to be given this award, and for which I thank you lots. I am, of course, blushing at your kind words, and chuckling about being the oldest and oldest!
    Thanks, and hugs xx

  7. daffy Says:

haha Flighty! I can’t believe I managed to have a long conversation with you and I never mentioned it! :o ) I think I might be getting better at keeping surprises a surprise! I think Louise wanted to share it with you too so it can be from both us! I’m sure she would second my sentiments! Have a great evening!

  8. flighty Says:

I didn’t glean a hint about it, so well done! I’ll consider it as being from you and Louise, and I’ll thank her as well.
It’s been a good evening so far thanks to you. xx

  9. daffy Says:

    :o ) I’m still giggling about your ’smarties’ remark :o )

  10. Sirdar Says:

I get a kick out of you’re soccer…sorry…football fanaticism over there. In one way I think it is wonderful…and then you hear about the hooligans. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that any game is within reach if one wants to drive. Here in Canada, the nearest hockey team other than ours is a 3+ hour drive…the next closest is 12+ hour drive.

    Congrats on the award!!

  11. daffy Says:

Thanks Sirdar. (love my elephant award so much!!)
We love our football in this house. Newcastle United are a team that never quite get things right and yet you rreally want them too. It feels as though the rug is always pulled out from under them. My husband and I have accepted the situation but our son still has hope. :o )
We are only about 18 miles from Newcastle and the boys have season tickets which are quite expensive. I don’t hear of much hooliganism at our games at this level although I know there has been some trouble in the European matches over recent months. (Newcastle never managed to get into Europe this season!) My dad supports our closest rivals. Sunderland. This leads to alot of friendly banter. (I think its friendly! haha)

  12. Louise Says:

So pleased you loved the award Daffy, bet you didn’t love that 6-0 thrashing! Louise x

  13. nikkipolani Says:

Definitely a good match for you, my elephant loving friend! Congratulations! Hope you are having a lovely weekend, especially now that you’ve survived driving your husband’s car. I think you are right about mischievous boys (cats or humans).

  14. Steffi Says:

That is a nice award! The little picture looks cute!

  15. Michele Says:

    Hello Daffy dear
Good to hear from you just now…
It has been puzzling me.. your new banner…?
Is this the view from your back garden ?

    Mx

  16. Mas Says:

    hugs tightly
You know how to make me smile on a gray and dreary Monday morning. Thank you. This is the first year I’ve not been there for my daughter’s birthday – which has been a bit odd and a little sad. But you are making me think of happy thoughts – I have always been an elephant appreciator; and elephants and children are always a good combination – look at all the stories about elephants there are; including famous ones like Elmer the patchwork elephant stories and the Large family (chuckling remembering “5 minutes peace”). Of course, my favourite children’s elephant story has to be the one that I read as a child called (appropriately for this award) “that’s what friends are for” by Florence Parry Heide and Sylvia Van Clief – where the elephant Theodore hurts his leg and can’t go and visit his cousin – all his friends come and offer advice before working out the solution to the problem and having a party :)

    Smiling here.
You know, I think that before cars were invented, people didn’t swear; no – that doesn’t make sense – I’m sure people in horse-drawn carriages would occasionally turn the air blue when someone cut them up at the lights; let’s blame transport – if we walked everywhere no-one would swear. Okay, we’d probably have very sore feet, but can’t win them all. :)

Whale and chips!? Goodness me! :) still, I was always told that fish is good brain food … he wasn’t planning to thrash the youngsters in the local pub quiz night was he? – smiling about the egg/pineapple swap; that sounds familiar

Shame about the footy; it’s a game of winners and losers unfortunately – I think they’ll have their day; they just need some inspired leadership, a bit of luck and.. um… something else I forget (it’s probably not important :) )

Thank you again for sharing the award
    have a good day
    hugs
    X

  17. Congratulations! It’s a cute award.

  18. thedailydish Says:

Your lunch sounded so incredibly interesting!! I’m assuming the “whale” your dad had is just a huge sandwich, or am I totally wrong? And what is a gammon steak? (with pineapple and an egg?!) Sounds fabulous. Wish you had photos!! I am crazy about food. PS: CONGRATS! on your Nelly award!! I adore elephants. It couldn’t be cuter. Love from across the pond, Christy

  19. Dawn Says:

Congratulations on the award. I must say, however, that Peter is probably the oldest blogger around but you likely haven’t known him as long. He rivals many an old geezer in the blogger world, but I think he probably surpasses most in age.

Sounds like a good time out for eats and a nice time for the guys at the game.

  20. daffy Says:

Hi Dawn, the lads made the most of the day. I think they were impressed with the stadium so perhaps that made up for the final score. :o )
    .
Hi Christy! The whale was my rather limp attempt at humour! :o ) It was a rather big fish! Gammon is bacon only sliced thick like a steak. Lovely with egg or pineapple…or both! Knowing your love for food I will be sure to get pics the next time! Promise. Love xxxx
    .
PI – Many thanks! It is a good pic isn’t it! :o )
    .
Hi Mas – My reply comments are a bit overdue!
    I only ever swear whilst I drive….*whistles* :o )
    .
Hi Michele! Oh I wish it was the view of my garden. I love this picture. I could see myself running through the field… I’m humming the Little House on the Prairie song now! I’ll try and take some pics of my garden soon. I think you will still be pretty impressed. We live on the verge of a wood and the views are pretty good if not a little cluttered with trees! :o )
    .
Hi Steffi! It is cute isn’t it! :o )
    .
Hi Flighty, I’m going to try and catch up with all the blogs this afternoon! :o )
    .
Nikki! How are the troublesome twosome! Watch him! He will lead that sweet young lady astray! :o ) xxx
    .
Louise- Hope you are having a good blog break! I don’t care about the thrashing now! Mr Keegan has put a smile back on my face!
