Outings

I think I mentioned a couple of entries ago about an outing to a local petting farm.  We were taking advantage of the early Autumn sunshine.  The farm we visited is a working farm but allows interaction with the animals, some may think it’s mainly for younger children but I don’t think there is an age limit on cuddling bunnies and feeding the goats and sheep!

Luckily I had my big handbag with me so this little chap got stuffed in my bag and he now lives with us! :o ) Ok, not true but be honest, you could pinch him couldn’t you?

The best thing about this picture is the sheep in the background waiting for his turn! :o )

Don’t be fooled with this one! He was as mean as a rattlesnake… grumpy old goat! :o )

I did take a few more but they were the best ones I think.

Today my daughter and I became tourists in our own city.  I love Durham, I appreciate its beauty and have never taken it for granted.  We wandered along the river banks today, the weather was dry but a little overcast.

User submitted image This is just below the castle, there was a fish jumping as I took this picture but David Baily I aint! :o )

User submitted image The veiw from Prebends Bridge.  I’ve spent many an afternoon in a boat on there but today was a little too chilly.

User submitted image The Cloisters.

We went into the Cathedral and listened to the end of the service.  It was our intention to climb the steps to the tower but sadly it wasn’t open.

To end the day with a smile we had fish and chips before an hours bowling.  Who won? Well I did of course! There is no room for sentiment when it comes to bowling! :o )

Another good Sunday.

As promised to Philosophyoflife here is a poem I wrote a few months ago.  I think some of my blog friends have seen this before on ‘Feathers’.  No Title yet.

She looked at the pieces that lay scattered on the ground.

A broken heart shattered yet she hadn’t heard a sound.

She had opened it up wide; she had laid her heart bare.

She had offered it to him; his sort was pure and rare.

So intensely driven. Too soon, too much, too fast.

And then so sudden, exciting future cast to the past.

She bends to pick the pieces of her fragmented heart,

Gathered up and cradled, she feels torn apart.

Time Heals. Fools rush in. Words can’t ease her pain.

With wishes, hopes and dreams she heads into the rain.

The feint rainbow in the distance reaches far and wide,

The colours so enchanting push her sadness aside.

A lovely entry made all the better with the photos. You girls obviously enjoyed yourselves both days.
I have fond memories of Durham although I’ve not been there for many years, and yes it is at the top of my list of places to revisit.
I like the poem, and will be interested to see what title you give it.
    Have a good week. xx

Oh, I thought you were adopting another rabbit when I first saw the bunny photo. Are those yours and DD’s (dear daughter) matching shoes? Very cute :-)

  3. Jason Says:

Brilliant Daffy! and that bunny wabbit is sooooo cute!

  4. M Says:

    hugs
some really beautiful photos there – I have to say that that bunny … well… I think I should stop going to the pet store – every time I go I want to bring all the cute and furry creatures home with me 8*) and that bunny is so… well… sneak-into-the-handbag and off we go … were we all not fine upstanding citizens and so on 8*)

The poem – every time I read it it makes a tear come to my eye (not the same tear) just want to give you a big hug
    >:*|< (which I think is the hugging smilie … to me it looks like a a rabbit in mid-hop – I guess _\:*| being a bunny smilie, or should be, or not. I should never really play around with these things. Always end up with something odd and not at all what I intended.

    Anyway
    take care of yourself there

    _\:*| bunnies and hugs 8*)

Hi Flighty, we do enjoy an outing! She is really good company and we chat for hours about nothing. She has my appreciation for Durham too although she wasn’t impressed when I got us lost in the Cathedral grounds! Only for a second or two though.
Not sure of a title, sometimes I write them without an idea of what they are going to be… words just come. I will have to have a think about it.
Oh if yourevisit I will find us a cosy coffee shop! :o )
    .
Nikki – We arn’t allowed! :o ( No more animals for a while! I’ll no doubt be able to get around him though and you never know. If they stayed as little and cute as the one here it would be ok. His name was Magic which I presume is derived from his colour, Black Magic. Maybe not.
The shoes are issued by the bowling rink! They really should get Julian McDonald in there to do a design, Oh! or JImmy Choo! lol
    .
Hey J, How are you? The rabbit is tooooo cute! He would have gone in my bag no bother!
    .
Mas, You know I have an image of a tear trickling down your cheek and then whizzing it’s way back up behind your ear and so it goes on. I had a penguin game when I was little and they used to go up these steps and then down the slide and then back up the steps again. Tears, penguins, they are all the same to me. It is a little sad isn’t it, but the rainbow is the hope… change is on the horizon for her.
Each time my dad has lost his dog I have had to go to the kennels and choose another. How he only gets one is beyond me becasue I swear that if I could get them all I would. :o ) I like how you make up these little images… I can’t see a rabbit thought. &^%%%$) mmmmm not sure what that is!
    hugs and penguins to you.

Awww fwuffy bunny. Plus, grumpy goat – goats are my favourites. They are indeed evil but have very soft lips. (I used to live at a place that had a goat which regularly came in an sat on the settee to watch telly and had a habit of kissing me – before you get any ideas…)

Plus, you *know* I’m a sucker for poems ;-)

  7. Fabulous Says:

I WANT THAT BUNNY!. I want to squish it and hug it and pop it in my maternity bag as no one will find it in there.
What is it with me and little cute animals at the moment. I cant get enough of them. ANd i am totally allergic. lol.
I cant wait to be able to take my little girl to a petting zoo. Sounds so much fun. And your never too old to enjoy the little things (except goats who eat lollies.. oh yes).
Nice bowling shoes. You would of thought someone would of re designed them by now wouldnt you!

  8. alexthecat Says:

You are a good human to go to pet animals on a farm

  9. M Says:

laughs – I knew you’d have that mental image (one I had myself) – that penguin game sounds familiar – and penguins and tears – a very similar shape – only one with wings and feet… or something like that.

The rabbit 8*) – I think it goes like this

_\ are the ears : is the eyes and *| is a fluffy tail and big hopping feet.
ahh… I’ve and idea – let’s give it big buck teeth

    _\:b*|

    hmm

    >8b*/

    (that’s a shocked rabbit)

    \\:b*\

(and that one’s hopping away quite quickly because I’m scaring it)

    now… as for

    &^%%%$)

that’s a totem pole!!! Or maybe a sleeping owl sitting on a branch…
I’m a sucker for small furry things
    xXx

  10. daffy Says:

Mr B I will not say a thing about you and the goat(s) *zip* My lips are sealed. :o )
I noticed a comment of yours at the lovely frogs place and a few of us did titled entries for National Poetry Day myself included. Check out Flighty, M and Nikki.
Should I go back and nick the bunny?
    .
Fab, I saw it first….step away from the bunny! :o )
Oh you and your girl are going to have the best times to come. You just wait! We did everything with our boy then five years later did them all again with our girl! Great fun! Take care. xx
    .
Alex! How lovely to see you here. I think that bunny would make a grand play pal for you… not the goat though, he was mean and those horns, well, they were just dangerous! :o )
    .
Mas, haha I like the totem pole. And penguins and tears are a simlar shape like pears. :o ) Yes, yes, I see a pear with flippers sat on an iceberg…. :o )

  11. Captivating poetic verse – one can visualise as one reads … You have a talent – and do hope to read more…

As for Durham Cathedral ….. indeed a place of mystique charm and beauty – if only the hill had a lift…….

Really enjoyed reading your ‘Outing’ post as well as viewing the delightful photo’s..

  12. daffy Says:

Look at you all upgraded and posh! :o )
Oh and I found your blogroll! I think I had those rose-tinted glasses on. :o )
Thanks for the kind words. You wanted the bunny too didn’t you…
    .
Some days the words just flow, its so easy and then I can go for weeks and the minute I try and write it feels forced and nothing comes out. I wrote more when I was younger. I didn’t cultivate my ability as I should have. Now, heading into my forties, (as the title suggests) all I want to do is write.

  13. Merle Says:

Hi Daffy ~~ or I should say H.E.L.L.O !! You had a lovely visit to the farm and your photos are great. Thanks for your comments

  14. punctuation Says:

  16. daffy Says:

H.E.L.L.O Merle, you realise that everyone will wonder why we are doing this. You’ll have to visit Merle and find out! :o )
